SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA: Michelle Obama, former first lady, has dived into the world of podcasts with her own show now. In the first episode of ‘Michelle Obama: The Light Podcast,' she talked about her changed role as the mother of two daughters — Sasha and Malia. "I'm moving from mom-in-chief to advisor-in-chief. That's a lovely thing — to be able to watch my girls fly and have the relief that 'okay, I think I didn't mess them up,' " she told Today's Hoda Kotb.

Michelle, who enjoys parenting in her 50s more than ever, further talked about her new designation and her new evolved role. She said that her relationship with her two daughters has matured to a point where she no more greets them with ‘a critical eye’. The 59-year-old even shared one incident on the podcast when Malia once walked into her hotel room in wrinkly clothes and she told her to get it fixed. 'You're wrinkly — you're gonna do something about this.' And she was like 'Yeah, Mom,'“ she remembered.

'They don't need us to fix them'

"And then I thought I did it. I greeted her with instead of what I felt, which is, 'sit on my lap, give me a kiss' — I'm fixing things. I'm pointing out, 'Oh my God, your hair is not right here,' " Obama reflected. "What Toni Morrison said is that our children just want our gladness. They don't need us to fix them," the former lady said. "They don't need us to point out the thing that's wrong, first." The two daughters moved in together in Los Angeles after leaving their parents’ home. Malia, 24, is presently working as a production assistant on Halle Berry’s CBS sci-fi drama series 'Extant' and as a writer on Donald Glover’s Amazon series 'Swarm.' Meanwhile, Sasha, 21, is studying psychology at the University of Southern California, according to People.

'Okay, well that's interesting'

During a promotional event for her book ‘The Light We Carry’ in November 2022, the former first lady opened up for the first time when her daughters decided to move in together. "You try not to react too much because you don't want to go, 'Oh my gosh, I'm so happy for you!' because then they think, 'Well, maybe this is not a good thing if my mom likes it,' " she said adding, So I just said, 'Okay, well that's interesting that you guys are going to try living together. We'll see how it goes,'. But yeah, it feels good to know that the two girls you raised find solace at a kitchen table with one another. It's like the one thing you want for them.
