MOSCOW, IDAHO: Coroner of Idaho murder case Cathy Mabbutt has faced several criticisms during the course of the investigation. Mabbutt was criticized for dismissing the toxicology reports of the murder that killed four University of Idaho students, including Kaylee Goncalves, 21, Madison Mogen, 21, Ethan Chapin 20, and Xana Kernodle, 20.

Meanwhile, 28-year-old Bryan Kohberger was arrested as the suspect in the murders and has been charged with four counts of first-degree murder and one count of felony burglary. However, Mabbutt's educational qualification now reveals that she doesn't have a medical degree but is a registered nurse from Sacred Heart School of Nursing.

What is the educational qualification of Cathy Mabbutt?

The official website of Latah County states, "Cathy Mabbutt was first elected coroner in November 2006. She graduated as registered nurse (RN) from Sacred Heart School of Nursing and worked at Gritman Medical Center Emergency Department for many years. She graduated with B.S. in political science from University of Idaho and then completed law degree from the University of Idaho in 2001."

Why was the coroner of Idaho murders criticized?

Mabbutt was criticized for her toxicology report that she claimed on Fox News. She said, "They can be related to cause or manner of death, but they are not in this case. It's been really difficult, especially not knowing who did it and not having someone in custody. It had to be a really big knife to inflict those injuries and kill four people." Mabbutt added, "I deal with a lot of sadness, but this is pretty extreme," she said. "It's unusual for us to get homicides, let alone four at a time." Some of the experts, such as forensic pathologist and former medical examiner Dr Michael Baden, slammed the coroner on Fox 5 Atlanta News, "From the toxicology, you could learn a great deal about where the decedents were during the hours before their death, what, if any, drugs they were taking, their state of mind." He added, "Did they take drugs that could have caused them to sleep and not wake during the encounter?."

Later, the expert also stated, "These days, there are literally hundreds of drugs looked for in toxicology that are new and different because of all the fentanyl and methamphetamine-like drugs coming from different sources. Certain drugs are used in Washington versus Idaho, which could offer clues about where they were or who they were with before they died." He also suggested, "Maybe one of the victims had their food spiked," he said. "This would be a significant piece of evidence." Retired Los Angeles Police Det. Mark Fuhrman also said, "She should stop talking. She has never done an autopsy. She doesn't understand the value of the autopsy information to police. She should not have talked to anybody about the injuries of any of the victims," as per Fox 5 News Atlanta.
