As per Insider, Harry and Meghan had already renounced their titles as senior members of the royal household by that time. However, the couple is still obligated to follow the royal rules regarding photography and filming within Buckingham Palace. As reported by The Telegraph, the pair did not seek permission from Queen Elizabeth II, who died in September, to commission the photos taken within the monarch's residence. As per the outlet, the couple’s decision to bring in a photographer to the 775-room royal residence has caused strife within the palace with a written complaint lodged against the two.
According to the DailyMail, the Sussexes were not made aware of the warning which in normal circumstances requires a memo to be sent to the Queen following the ‘strict protocol’ around filming and photography inside the palace.
The viral image shows the Duke and Duchess walking towards the garden exit of Buckingham Palace where two guards are opening the doors for them. It is believed the images which appear in the Netflix trailer were taken during the couple's 'farewell tour' of the UK in March 2020. However, the never-before-seen image has not been credited to a named photographer as of now. On the other hand, the credit for the photographs snapped in the UK goes to Chris Allerton.
As per the outlet, a royal insider claims that the presence of the photographer was a 'genuine violation' of the protocol. Moreover, it is likely that plenty of such private images will appear in the documentary considering it is a six-episode series.
In the released clip, the Duke can be heard saying “No one sees what goes on behind closed doors” while a photo of Meghan in distress is shown. “I had to do everything I could to protect my family” he added. "When the stakes are this high, doesn't it make sense to hear our story from us?" the Duchess let out as she faced the camera.
