LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'I Used To Be Funny' tells the story of a stand-up comedian, Sam, who is suffering from PTSD as a result of an undisclosed traumatic event; and is torn between whether or not she should join the search for a young girl, Brooke, who used to be his nanny.

The feature film, written and directed by Ally Pankiw, recently premiered at the SXSW 2023 festival and received positive feedback from both the audience and critics. The film's executive producers are Ally Pankiw, John Laing, Mark Gingras, Paul Barkin, Judy Holm, Jordan Nahmias, and Li-Wei Chu.

Who stars in ‘I Used To Be Funny’?

Rachel Sennott plays Sam, a stand-up comedian, and Olga Petsa plays Brooke, an 11-year-old girl. Sabrina Jalees and Caleb Hearon play Sam’s best friends and fellow comics, Paige and Philip, and they all take turns on stage in Toronto's comedy scene.

Dani Kind plays Brooke's aunt, Jill, and Jason Jones plays the missing teenager's father. Aside from the main characters, the dark comedy-drama also stars DJ Mausner, Marvin Kaye, Marisa McDonald, Zackery Vincent, Anna Floros, Ennis Esmer, and Matia Jackett.

The film delves deeply into the mind of a person suffering from PTSD, and how not only the person suffering from it but everyone around them, is affected; as well as depicting the adorable bond between two individuals who weren't related by blood but shortly became almost like family.
