LONDON, ENGLAND: A mystery woman is going viral on TikTok after she claimed that she was Madeleine McCann. On February 16, a young girl went live on Instagram at night to show proof about why she might be the missing girl, and it has been reported that she wants the authorities to look into it.

At the age of 3, Madeleine Beth McCann went missing from her bed in a vacation apartment in Praia da Luz, Portugal, on the evening of 3 May 2007. The disappearance was dubbed "the most heavily reported missing-person case in modern history" by The Daily Telegraph.

What is in the video?

The girl claims to be 21 years old in the video, yet she says that she is unsure of her true identity or age. The video is currently trending on TikTok. She asserts that Madeleine had a spot on her leg and that she has similar mark on her body. In the video that has been watched over one million times by now, the girl displays the marks on her body. When during the Instagram live, she was questioned by her audience on when she first thought she might be Madeleine McCann, she responded back saying, “A few months ago. It was something that I heard from my grandma.” She continues by claiming that despite her attempts to get a copy of her birth certificate, she not being able to get one, which made her more suspicious.

The TikTok video's conclusion urged viewers to visit the girl's Instagram account, @iammadeleinemcan. The bio on the profile reads,  “Help me, I need to talk with Kate and Gerry McCann I think I can be Madeleine. I  need a DNA test. Police investigators from UK and Poland try to ignore me. I will tell my story in posts here. Help me.”

She has posted additional "evidence" and images of herself as a child on this profile. She claims she has Madeleine's eye color in several pictures posted to her Instagram story. In her right eye, Madeleine McCann reportedly had a sign of the incredibly uncommon disorder coloboma. This is not the first time someone has claimed to be Madeleine online. According to Irish Mirror, in 2019, a group of females posted on TikTok that they believe they are the missing child. And in 2017, a student went viral for claiming to have proof that she was the lost child.

What happened to Madeleine McCann?

According to Daily Telegraph, Gerry and Kate McCann from Leicestershire were vacationing in Praia da Luz, Portugal, with their three kids — Madeleine, Sean, and Amelie. In order to meet friends for dinner at a tapas bar in the Ocean Club resort where they were all staying, the McCanns left their sleeping kids in their vacation apartment at 8.30 pm. By 10 o'clock in the evening, Kate went back to the apartment to check on the kids and found Madeleine's bed vacant and the child gone.

Following an anonymous tip, Robert Murat, a British ex-pat who lived close to the resort where Madeleine disappeared, was identified as a suspect in the investigation. Despite being the focus of sensational media rumors, the computer consultant was never detained in connection with Madeleine's disappearance. Detectives named Madeleine's parents as suspects after further interviewing them, which led to significant media speculation that the McCanns were involved in their daughter's abduction.

The McCann case was put on hold by the Portuguese attorney general after concluding that all available channels of inquiry had been exhausted, and the suspect status of the McCanns and Murat was lifted. After being cleared, each of the three received several hundred thousand pounds in libel damages. Later, a 43-year-old German man was named as a new suspect in the case by German detectives after he was imprisoned for raping a 72-year-old lady in 2005 in the same town where Madeleine vanished. He was identified as Christian Brückner.

According to BBC, Brückner, known only as Christian B in Germany for legal reasons, was not charged because of a lack of evidence, according to prosecutor Hans Christian Wolters. The whereabouts of the missing child remain a mystery for a long time. ‘The Disappearance of Madeleine McCann,’ a new documentary series from Netflix, reignited rumors regarding her whereabouts.
