Madeleine McCann suspect Christian B was ‘no more than 5 mins’ away from where she went missing
Mobile phone analysis has claimed that Christian Brueckner, a prime suspect declared in the case of Madeleine McCann, was “no more than five minutes” away from where the little girl went missing. In May 2007, McCann was holidaying with her family in Portugal’s Praia da Luz, on the Algarve, when she went missing. Since then, investigators have been trying hard to solve the mystery.
In June 2020, Brueckner – who is currently behind bars for raping a 72-year-old American woman in the Algarve in 2005 – was named the prime suspect but he repeatedly denied any involvement. The recent revelation has been made by a German TV documentary, which will air Monday night, January 31. It also claimed that the 44-year-old felon used to work as a repairman at the holiday home where the victim stayed with her family. According to a “reliable” source, the man “repeatedly carried out repair work” at the holiday flats.

Though investigators working on the case believe that Brueckner was behind Madeleine’s disappearance, he’s never been charged. However, now the documentary claims to present ample amounts of “evidence” that could help him charge and the case will go to trial. The documentary team, which includes former investigators and journalists, have stated that they’ve “many new clues and indications” that confirm Brueckner’s involvement in the three-year-old’s missing case.
“The sad story of Madeleine McCann is a story that has many German facets. The case is being tried at the Regional Court of Braunschweig, as the German Christian B. is the main suspect. In his environment there are many German women and men who can describe individual details surrounding the crime. Jutta Rabe has researched shocking material in Germany, Portugal and England over the past months, which heavily incriminates Christian B,” editor-in-chief Juliane Ebling said.
This comes after a Mail on Sunday report stated that Brueckner was “obsessed by women with bodies like pre-pubescent girls, his ex-girlfriend has revealed.” Nicole Fehlinger also reportedly claimed to date the criminal at the time when McCann disappeared. Fehlinger told the outlet, “I have nothing to do with the disappearance and am not involved in the case. I was his lover, not his accomplice.”
She also said, “He was nice and polite, but then our friendship became something more. I was alone at my house and Christian used to come around. He said he liked small bodies of women and he liked the bodies of girls before they reached puberty,” before recalling the night when McCann vanished. Fehlinger added: “I don’t know if he came late that night and parked his vehicle outside and slept in there, and left that morning again, or he did not turn up.”
Meanwhile, apart from McCann's case, investigators are also probing Brueckner for his alleged involvement in three other cases. The first case is the 2004 rape of an Irish woman named Hazel Behan in Praia da Rocha on the Algarve. The second one is the sexual assault case of a 10-year-old girl in Portugal in 2007 - the same year when McCann vanished. And, the last case happened in 2017 when Brueckner allegedly abused four kids at a festival in São Bartolomeu de Messines.
