Who doesn't love some good old whodunit mystery? When you combine whodunit mystery alongside the competitiveness of a singing talent show you'll be left with FOX's beloved 'The Masked Singer'. Hosted by Nick Cannon, with panelists Ken Jeong, Jenny McCarthy, Nicole Scherzinger and Robin Thicke, 'The Masked Singer' is a top-secret celebrity singing competition that will have everyone wondering who’s behind the mask?

Based on an international format, and already a viral phenomenon with over half a billion fans worldwide, 'The Masked Singer' features celebrities facing off against one another with one major twist: each singer is shrouded from head to toe in an elaborate costume that conceals his or her identity. With each performance, the host, panelists, audience, viewers and even the other contestants are left guessing who is singing behind the mask. The singers attempt to throw the crowd off of their scent, while keen observers might pick up on tiny clues buried throughout the show. One singer will be eliminated by the audience and judges each week, based on their performance, and will then reveal his or her true identity. It’s not a “whodunit,” it’s a “whosungit!”

Ever since 'The Masked Singer' first premiered in America in 2019, the show has made several changes to its format to keep things interesting and the audience hooked. From introducing wild card entries to immediate unmasking, the showrunners have constantly kept adding and removing various elements from its format, while retaining the essence of mystery and intrigue. 'The Masked Singer' is all set to return for its sixth season and its already making a buzz amongst fans. The showrunners have once again tweaked a few things to make season 6 of 'The Masked Singer' one of the most memorable seasons. Read on to know about what sets the upcoming season 6 apart from the previous seasons.

For season 6, the show's format has undergone some major changes. The contestants will be divided into two groups- Group A and Group B. The contestants will then compete within their own groups to pick a winner. The winner from each group will have a final face off in the grand finale. “It’s almost like we have three finales in our show,” executive producer Craig Plestis told EW. “We have a winner from Group A and Group B, and they’ll then be going head-to-head, almost like a prizefight, to see who is the Masked Singer. But the great thing is, they’ll be taking on each other, and they’ve never sat on the same stage together until that moment.”

The Take It Off Buzzer is another cool feature that will shake things up. Ahead of the show's premiere, the producers explained about the new change to the show's format. If a judge is certain they know who’s behind a mask, they can hit the buzzer at any time and announce their guess. If they’re right, the contestant has to unmask immediately and will get eliminated from the competition. The panelist also earns two points toward winning the Golden Ear Trophy at the end of the season.  However, if the panelist’s buzzer guess is wrong, the contestant stays masked and the judge who guessed loses two points from their Golden Ear tally. There’s also a catch: The buzzer can only be used once for Group A and once for Group B, meaning that every panelist won’t get to use it.

Aside from the above changes to the show's format, for the first time ever in the show's history, one of the celebrities (Queen of Hearts) will be performing a foreign song in French. While the Banana from the Banan Split won't be singing in the competition but instead will be playing the piano and the Ice-Cream part of the costume will be singing to it. We can't wait to catch up on all this excitement.

The premiere of 'The Masked Singer' Season 6 will be a two-night event. You can catch the premiere on Wednesday, September 22 & Thursday, September 23, at 8/7c on FOX.
