LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Derek Hough and Hayley Erbert are speaking out for the first time about a terrifying car accident they were involved in earlier this month. The 37-year-old 'Dancing with the Stars' judge and his fiancee, Erbert, 28, who was also a dancer on the program, wanted to let fans know that they were hurt but okay after the "scary" accident.
"On December 12, Derek and I got into a pretty scary car accident," Erbert wrote on Instagram on Wednesday, December 23, as per Daily Mail. "Our accident involved a steep hill, icy roads, a tree, and worst of all, the fear that we would slide off the mountain. Given the circumstances, we have so much to be grateful for."

Erbert posted a video on Instagram which documents the aftermath of the couple's accident, including the damage to their car, their visit to the emergency room and the moment Erbert received stitches in her forehead. Fortunately, she was able to go home soon after.
She is relieved that no other people were hurt in the crash. Additionally, she added that paramedics arrived quickly to assist the couple. "First, that there were no other people involved. Second, the quick response from paramedics. And lastly we are both okay," she said. "I only walked away a little banged up, a swollen face, and four stitches above my eyebrow. Now, more than ever, we realize how fragile life is and how important it is to love those around you. We hope that everyone has a safe, healthy, and happy holiday season."
The couple treated themselves to snacks after leaving the emergency room. Erbert said she had difficulty eating her candies, adding that it was "one of the saddest things about tonight." "It's taken me a very long time to chew it 'cause it hurts cause of this area'," Erbert said, pointing to her forehead of fresh stitches. "Bummer."
The most terrifying part for Hough was that Erbert doesn't recall much of the incident. "The scariest part was that Hayley doesn’t remember anything. She was dazed afterwards, being cheerful saying we should keep going to dinner as blood ran down her face," he wrote in the comments. "That really scared me. She came to 20 minutes later when the firemen arrived." The couple met in 2014 and Erbert joined 'DWTS' the following year. They reportedly began dating in 2016, making their relationship social media official in 2017. They announced their engagement earlier this year in June.
