SAN JOSE, CALIFORNIA: Steve Harwell, widely known as the singer of the band Smash Mouth, had a son named Presley Scott Harwell, who died at the age of six months from acute lymphocytic leukemia in July 2001, as per Billboard.

Later, the singer, now 56, reportedly created a medical research fund in Presley's honor.

Presley Scott Harwell was his only child. Steven Scott Harwell suffered a tragic personal tragedy in July 2001 when his son died at the age of 6 months from acute lymphocytic leukemia. 

This terrible incident had an unmistakable influence on Harwell and his family, as the loss of a child is an unfathomable and extremely emotional occurrence.

In the aftermath of this tragic event, Harwell transformed his anguish into a meaningful and lasting homage to his son.

In memory of his late child, Harwell founded a medical research foundation called Presley. 

This foundation was intended to promote and advance scientific efforts aimed at battling the dreadful cancer that had taken his son's life.

The former Smash Mouth lead vocalist is currently receiving hospice care at home due to his failing health.

He has struggled with ongoing medical conditions like cardiomyopathy and liver failure.

According to his manager Robert Hayes, Harwell is being taken care of by his fiance, as reported by TMZ.

"Although Steve is here with us still, sadly, it will only be for a short time," Hayes said in a statement to CNN.  

When was Steve Harwell last seen?

The gifted singer performed singles for years before worrying Smash Mouth fans during a 2021 performance; he was last spotted in 2017 in Del Mar, California, as per Daily Mail.

Confusion, difficulty walking, and hypothermia are just a few of the harmful symptoms that the potentially fatal neurological illness can produce.

Steve is said to be in the terminal stages of liver failure and currently receiving hospice care with only days to live.

Prior to being transferred to hospice care, he was receiving hospital therapy for his liver problems. The singer is still under 60 years old.
