NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Supermodel Stephanie Seymour has opened up about her late son, 24-year-old Harry Brant, who died on January 18, 2021, in her first interview since his death. The 54-year-old model, who was a former Victoria’s Secret Angel, spoke out about coping with grief and how her family has mourned for the loss as she reportedly said, "If I think that Harry would love something, I do it, and it does help me with my grief."

In an interview with WSJ Magazine, she honored her late son, who followed in her footsteps and started his career as a model by appearing in Italian Vogue and Balmain campaigns, with a photoshoot wearing his favorite Saint Laurent suit by Hedi Slimane, baring his name on her back. "It’s a suit that I keep hanging in my dressing room, which is this big room where I keep all my stuff. I do my makeup there. I live in that room. I looked at that suit one night and I said, ‘I’m going to put it on.’ It fit me,” Seymour said.

'I want to keep photographing his clothes'

Seymour continued, "It still feels so good to put his clothes on. I packed up these huge trunks with all his things, and I have this idea that I want to keep photographing his clothes because I think he would love it. He’s got this whole flock of women that would love to wear his clothes and be photographed. That’s something I’m going to enjoy doing.”

The model went on to share how her son, who was also a writer for Interview Magazine, was always interested in fashion and would even pick out her outfits for parent-teacher conferences. She recollected, “I would say, ‘OK, you can choose my outfit,’ and then he would go through everything, the vintage, the everything, lay it all on the floor.” She remembered how Brant once picked out a baby-blue vintage Christian Dior dress and matching baby-blue Manolo Blahnik pumps. “I’d say, ‘Harry, I can’t wear a vintage couture dress to a parent-teacher conference,’ ” Seymour recalled, adding, “And he’d say, ‘Why not?’ ”

She credited her grandchildren with helping her get through the grief as she said, "I try to just be present. For me with holidays, and I’m sure a lot of other people can relate, it’s difficult now because I’m always thinking of what’s missing. But I’m really lucky. [We] have a lot of grandchildren. And there’s nothing that’s helped me get through all of this more than my grandchildren."

Seymour and her husband, Peter, a billionaire art collector, married in 1995 and share three children, Lily, Harry and Peter jr. He has five children from his previous marriage to Sandra Simms, while Seymour has one son from her first marriage to guitarist Tom Andrews.

How did Harry Brant die?

Seymour and Peter revealed in a statement that Brant had "lost his battle with addiction and died due to an accidental overdose of prescription medication," as per PEOPLE. The statement said, “Our hearts are shattered. Harry wanted to overcome his addiction and was just days away from re-entering rehab. Harry was not just our son, he was also a wonderful brother, loving grandson, favourite uncle and a caring friend. He was a creative, loving and powerful soul that brought light into so many people’s hearts. He was a truly beautiful person inside and out.”
