'House of the Dragon': Fans hail King Viserys I for choosing NOT to be a pedophile by rejecting Laena Velaryon
Incestuous relationships on mainstream TV were introduced in 'Game of Thrones' and the legacy is being carried forward by its new and prequel show, 'House of the Dragon'. Did you all really think that we won't witness it this time around as well? However, this time around another element has been added to up the 'eww' factor, which is pedophilia. A wide age gap has been introduced in the series where people are seeing Alicent Hightower (Emily Carey) "romancing" King Viserys I. Well, there is also incest, when people witness Laena Velaryon's (Viserys's niece) being a bride candidate for King Viserys I.
However, fans have mixed emotions all over social media as Paddy Considine's character King Viserys I, chooses to marry Alicent Hightower instead of Laena Vaelaryon in the second episode of 'House of the Dragon'.

Some fans are simply disgusted at the small council as they suggested Viserys marry either Laena or Alicent, which in itself is incredibly problematic as they are both teenage children. Although Laena is just a name being suggested, Alicent is trying her best to lure the king to be attracted to her by playing tricks, comforting him, and much more — we won't give you many spoilers if you haven't watched it yet. After the release of the second episode, fans start discussing pedophilia hinted at in the episode.
A fan wrote about Laena saying, "What did your mother tell you? That I wouldn’t have to bed you until I turned 14. Eewwwwwww poor kid #HouseOfTheDragonHBO #HOTD." Another fan added to the discussion saying, "Jesus! This is the child they want the king to marry??? #HouseoftheDragon." Another fan mentioned, "Viserys feeling like Larry David in Curb Your Enthusiasm #HouseoftheDragon." "This guy had a chance to become a pedophile and still choose not to be one. Be like him. #HOTD," said another tweet.
Some fans also felt bad for Alicent, protesting that she is a child as well, even if she is a few years older than Laena. A fan wrote, "Maybe look up Alicent's age." Another fan reacted, "Alicent is 15, so she probably had her 'first blood'. Also as the 12-yr-old kid said, they don't need to bed the king until they are 14." A fan mentions, "Dawg is literally gonna marry a 15yo." A fan added, "alicent still underage she like 15." "To be fair, 15 in the medieval era is considered a grown adult," added a fan.
