LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: ‘House of the Dragon’ is one of the most highly-anticipated shows of the year and there is a sense of curiosity in everyone about HBO’s magnum opus. Set almost 200 years before the events of ‘Game of Thrones’, the upcoming series primarily focuses on House Targaryen ruling Westeros and planning to announce the rightful heir to the throne after King Viserys I. One of the prominent names on the list is Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith), the younger brother of King Viserys and younger son of Prince Baelon Targaryen.

Everything was running smoothly in House Targaryen till it was revealed that King Viserys will soon be announcing the name of the person that will be sitting on the throne and ruling the kingdom. Daemon feels backstabbed when it is announced that Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen is announced as the heir to the throne and doesn’t back away in showing his disappointment over the decision. However, sitting on the throne was not the only ambition he had and Smith believes that the show perfectly captures that.

In a recent interview, the ‘Morbius’ star opened up about his character on the show, stating that Daemon’s plans change very quickly and that’s one of the reasons why people are nervous about him sitting on the throne. The actor also compared his character to a “Rottweiler” who is steady, fearless, and a bit of mystery.

While speaking with Entertainment Tonight, the 39-year-old said, “I think his goals from day to day vary, depending on what side of the bed Daemon gets up on, to be honest. He’s a bit like a Rottweiler. You never really know what you’re gonna get.”

Daemon seems to be exactly the opposite of Daenerys Targaryan who knew that she wants to sit on the throne and lead the kingdom, whereas Darmon is more interested in “obstructing the power” rather than attaining it. However, we all know what the Mother of Dragons did in the final season of ‘Game of Thrones’ and that was the purest example of abuse of power.

He adds, “Daemon is interested in sort of conflict and chaos as much as he’s interested in power. So, he goes about being as problematic as can be, and that sort of makes him feel interested and alive.”

Daemon is one of the integral parts of the House Targaryen and an important player in the civil war that led to the fall of the legendary kingdom. It will be interesting to see how the show follows the source material and give us a show that could make everyone forget about Season 8 of ‘Game of Thrones’. The civil war is one of the most important aspects of that era and brought House Targaryen down to its knees. Apart from covering that aspect, the show will also focus on the times when the aforementioned house was at its prime and no other house could even be close to it.

We are really excited for the show to arrive on HBO and take on a journey that is filled with blood, gore, politics, and dragons.

‘House of the Dragons’ premieres exclusively on Sunday, September 21, 2022, on HBO at 9 pm EST.
