After watching several episodes of 'House of Payne', the excruciatingly slow pace grows on you. With a resigned air, you acknowledge that every episode will spend 20 minutes on one conversation between two characters.

In Episode 5, we saw Ella (Cassi Davis) and Jazmine (China McClain) trying to have an awkward conversation with Curtis continuously interrupting and demanding dinner. In Episode 6, we see the unwelcome-ish return of Miranda as she weeps to Janine about how Calvin doesn't contribute enough for child support. Yet, there seems to be a hint that she wants to get back together with him because she admits that she used to nag him saying that he wasn't going to get anywhere in life, and now that he has a high-paying job, she feels sorry for all the things she said to him. Janine is a patient listener, but when Miranda brings up how Calvin doesn't help with child support, Janine quietly calls her out for it, asking whether it's really about the money.

Calvin and Miranda have had the most toxic relationship on the series and their divorce has been prolonged till kingdom come. At the end of the episode, Calvin vents to Ella and Curtis that the divorce is taking a toll on him. This episode is a tad more serious than the previous one and could do a lot better without Curtis's constant refrains about women, because that just seems so painfully repetitive that you can't even try to smile anymore.

The question remains, whether Miranda wants to patch up with Calvin or not, or whether their relationship has indeed crashed and burned. It wouldn't be too bad, if it has, honestly. Meanwhile, at the beginning of the episode, there was friendly banter between CJ and Janine about their marriage and how happy they are together, though even that is played for laughs because they keep emphasizing it. Could that be a problem later? Who knows? Or, who cares?

Hopefully, the show will begin to move faster in the upcoming episodes. Tune into 'House of Payne' on BET on Wednesdays at 8 pm.
