In 'Homicide: New York' Episode 5, titled 'East Harlem Serial Killer', the narrative takes viewers back to June 1998, when 18-year-old Rasheda Washington was raped and killed in East Harlem.

Two months after Rasheda Washington's homicide, another girl was sexually assaulted in the same area.

The New York Police Department (NYPD) used DNA testing on the biological evidence recovered from Rasheeda's body.

The DNA was linked to two Manhattan rape victims, one in 1995 and another in 1996. This discovery was significant as it connected the perpetrator to additional crimes, indicating a pattern of predatory behavior.

Who were the victims of Arohn Kee?

In 1991, a 13-year-old schoolgirl named Paola Illera was raped and killed. In 1995 and 1996, two young girls in Manhattan were raped.

In 1997, 19-year-old Johalis Castro was raped in the basement of her apartment building. Her body was burned in an attempt to destroy evidence and possibly to prevent recognition.

The DNA evidence recovered from the crime scene eventually led to the identification of the offender, Arohn Kee, who's also known as Arohn Warford. He used the surnames of both his parents.

The New York Police Department (NYPD) offered a reward of $11,000 for any information leading to the arrest of Arohn.

During the investigation, another disturbing incident occurred when the man kidnapped a 15-year-old girl named Angelique Stalling from her Brooklyn apartment. The perpetrator then transported her to Miami, Florida, in a chilling act that shocked law enforcement.

Further testing of Arohn Kee's DNA confirmed his involvement in the previously unsolved murders of Paola Illera and Johalis Castro.

The detectives stayed diligent, persisting in DNA testing on multiple unresolved rape and murder cases in East Harlem to ascertain if Arohn had committed more crimes.

He confessed to Angelique Stalling, revealing that his sexual urges drove him to commit the crimes. Subsequently, he was arrested. Stalling was rescued and flown back to New York in 1999.

The jury delivered the guilty verdict on December 16, 2000, marking a significant moment in the legal proceedings against Arohn Kee. In January 2001, he received three consecutive life imprisonment sentences for his crimes.

He is currently serving his sentences.
