LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Pop culture's grumpiest cat will return to the big screen in an upcoming animated film 'Garfield,' which will be voiced by Chris Pratt. This time Garfield will be joined by a new character, Vic, who is his father and will be voiced by Samuel L Jackson. Although the plot of the movie has not yet been revealed, it is assumed that classic characters such as Jon Arbuckle and Odie will make an appearance. Garfield has had an eventful history on the big screen with Bill Murray previously voicing the character in two live-action and CGI hybrid films that received mixed reviews.

The franchise has also seen success with a variety of direct-to-video films, including 'Garfield Gets Real,' 'Garfield's Fun Fest,' and 'Garfield's Pet Force.' On television, Garfield has been the focus of several animated series, including 'Garfield and Friends' and 'The Garfield Show.' Directed by Mark Dindal and written by David Reynolds, 'Garfield' is produced by Columbia Pictures, financed by Alcon Entertainment, and executive produced by Jim Davis. However, having the likes of Chris Pratt and Samuel L Jackson in the cast didn't impress the fans as they raided Twitter showcasing their disappointment with Hollywood.

Chris Pratt's voice acting roles

Chris Pratt is an accomplished actor who has portrayed a variety of live-action characters, from Andy Dwyer on the hit television series 'Parks and Recreation' to the intergalactic adventurer Star-Lord/Peter Quill in the 'Marvel Cinematic Universe.' However, he has also lent his voice to a number of animated characters throughout his career. Pratt's first foray into voice acting was as Cooper in two episodes of 'Ben 10: Ultimate Alien,' and he later voiced Obi-Wan Kenobi in XBox's Kinect 'Star Wars: Duel'. One of his most notable voice roles was as Emmet Brickowski in the beloved animated film 'The Lego Movie,' a character he has revisited in subsequent installments. Pratt also portrayed Barley Lightfoot in Pixar's 'Onward'. In his most recent voice role, Pratt took the iconic character of Mario in 'The Super Mario Bros Movie ' which received a lot of backlash from fans just like Pratt being cast for Garfield.

'A big problem in Hollywood'

After the announcement that Chris Pratt will lend his voice to the iconic cat, fans immediately flooded Twitter with their frustration towards Hollywood for not casting suitable voice actors. RK Holiday commented, "I think we can all be honest with ourselves and admit that though @prattprattpratt is playing Garfield, he’s more of an Odie." A fan made a sarcastic jibe as they wrote, "Yay, another animated film starring big name Hollywood not voice actors". Another fan said, "Yet another example of casting the more popular person, not the person best for the role. This is sadly never going to stop being a big problem in Hollywood." A fan stated their firm disapproval of Chris Pratt playing Garfield and tweeted, "Yes. Because Garfield has always been a friendly upbeat optimist with an energetic disposition. Who did he blackmail to get these parts." Another fan shared a strong reaction as they questioned the existence of other actors' voices in Hollywood by tweeting, "Did all the other men in Hollywood lose their voices?" A disappointed user wrote, "With so many real good voice actors why keep hiring nonvoice actors." Lastly, one fan summed up what the fans really wanted as they tweeted, "Hire. Voice. Actors."
