LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Amazon Freevee in the US is set to exclusively stream 'Casa Grande', a bilingual limited series that delves into the gritty, everyday realities and conflicts between California’s hardworking, often undocumented migrant workforce and the wealthy landowners who profit from their labor. The series is created by Lauren Swickard ('A California Christmas') and Ali Afshar ('He’s Just Not That Into You'), and features an ensemble cast that includes John Pyper-Ferguson ('The 100, Suits'), Christina Moore ('That ’70s Show', '90210'), Madison Lawlor ('Juniper'), Karen Bethzabe ('Babylon'), Javier Bolaños (All American), Raquel Dominguez ('Chicago Med'), James Marsters ('Buffy The Vampire Slayer'), Emmy-winner Kate Mansi ('Days of Our Lives'), Daniel Edward Mora ('Coco'), Loren Escandon ('The Baxters'), and Afshar himself. This marks Ali Afshar’s ESX Entertainment's debut series on Netflix. The show will also air  on HBO Max, along with 'A California Christmas', 'I Believe in Santa', 'Holiday Harmony featuring Brooke Shields', and 'A Christmas Mystery' starring 'Violet McGraw' (M3gan).

'Casa Grande' offers a window into the lives of different families in the agricultural heartlands of Northern California, where the issues of class, immigration, culture, and family intersect. Through its portrayal of the complex relationships between the various characters, the show examines the enduring human struggle for dignity and survival, and highlights the social and economic inequalities that continue to shape our world. By using the conventions of character drama to illuminate these larger themes, 'Casa Grande' promises to be a powerful and thought-provoking viewing experience for the audience.

What is the plot of 'Casa Grande'?

'Casa Grande' is a limited series that follows the lives of multiple families in the agricultural regions of Northern California. The show's structure is reminiscent of an upstairs/downstairs story, with its setting transposed from turn-of-the-century English countryside to rural America. Through its exploration of universal themes such as class, immigration, culture, and family, the show uses the framework of conventional character drama to paint a compelling picture of the realities and conflicts faced by the socially invisible migrant workforce that is an essential component of America's agricultural industry. Per IMDb, the plot says - "Follows several families in the farmland of Northern California as it navigates universal themes of class, immigration, culture and family."

The overarching theme of 'Casa Grande' is that of demystifying the workings of the social and economic machine that drives our society. The show highlights how the glitzy, upper-crust culture of California's elite could not exist without the backbreaking labor of the undocumented migrant workers who operate behind the scenes.

Through its portrayal of the Clarkman Farm and its neighboring property, Dalton Farm, which employ, house, and feed a significant portion of Mendocino County's immigrant population, 'Casa Grande' delves into the dramatic truth behind America's allure for immigrants and the lengths that people are willing to go to pursue the 'American dream'.
