Hillary Clinton mocks Ted Cruz for leaving dog behind, Internet says she 'left 4 Americans to die in Benghazi'
The revelation of Ted Cruz's trip to Cancun, Mexico, with his family as his home state of Texas faced a severe winter storm, leaving millions without electricity, continues to anger social media. That Cruz also left behind the family's poodle, Snowflake, has only served to worsen the backlash. However, as former Secretary of State and former Democratic Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton chimed in on the topic, the internet proved that it does not forget.
Texas Republican Senator landed in a sea of controversy as he returned from the Cancun trip, saying it was "obviously a mistake" as the public called for his resignation. Cruz then blamed the trip on his pre-teen daughters, saying he wanted "to be a good dad." When a New York Magazine reporter went to verify that the power on Cruz's tweet was out, they learned that the family's small white dog, named Snowflake, was left behind. A security guard was also stationed at Cruz's home. The reporter wrote, "When asked who was taking care of a dog, the guard volunteered that he was."

However, while some may have found Clinton's tweet hilarious, not everyone did. Many took to social media to criticize Clinton's comment itself, with one user tweeting, "Well, that would exclude every democrat in the country." One user tweeted, "This isnʻt even satire anymore," with an image with the caption, "I can excuse racism, but I draw the line at animal cruelty."

One user said, "I made sure I didn't vote for someone who left 4 Americans to die in Benghazi." Others said Clinton's tweet was just more proof that White people would apparently care more about animals than Black people. Another tweeted, "I was gonna write this whole thing about how white people care more about dogs than Black human beings but I think y’all get it." A user echoed the sentiment, tweeting, "white people really do care about animals more than human beings thats so wild to me."

As Texans battled the lack of electricity, freezing sub-zero temperatures, and no running water, Sen. Cruz was spotted at the airport departure with his family on Wednesday, February 17. His office refused to divulge details about his whereabouts even after 12 hours following the emergence of the airport photos.
Cruz said in a statement that he decided to accompany his daughters Caroline and Catherine Cruz, and his wife Heidi Cruz in their pre-planned post-pandemic trip to the Mexican city. He acknowledged his "mistake" and returned to Texas on Thursday, February 18. In a later press conference, he revised his explanation, saying, "Whether the decision to go was tone-deaf -- look, it was obviously a mistake."
Many have since called for Cruz's resignation from his Senatorial position, citing gross misuse of power and resources, especially at such dire times.
