Is Ted Cruz's dog Snowflake safe? Senator slammed for 'abandoning' pet in freezing Texas to holiday in Cancun

The dog, who according to the outlet is named Snowflake, was being taken care of by the security guard of Cruz's white, Colonial revival-style mansion while Texas was reeling in a winter disaster

The Internet is furious with Texas Senator Ted Cruz and that is because his family dog was reportedly left at home while the senator and his family flew to Cancun, Mexico, on vacation, according to a New York Magazine report. The dog, who according to the outlet is named Snowflake, was being taken care of by the security guard of Cruz's white, Colonial revival-style mansion while Texas was reeling in a winter disaster that left millions without power, heat and water. 

The Internet was not happy that the senator took all of his family to the warmer climes of Cancun and left his pet poodle behind, an act which gained a lot of ire on Thursday, February 18, from animal lovers and Cruz critics alike.

'An awful, awful ghoul'

"Someone save Snowflake," pleaded a tweet, as Twitter users raised a lot of questions surrounding Cruz's sense of responsibility towards his pet. "What kind of POS Senator abandons his poodle Snowflake to go jet-setting off to Mexico?? Good lord... Ted Cruz is an awful awful ghoul," said a user. "Ted Cruz took his family to Mexico because their house was ‘FREEZING’, and he left behind his dog Snowflake? And they planned on being away for a week? FFS," said another.

"Texans who hate @aoc and voted for @tedcruz: AOC is raising money for Texans & coming to help you — Ted Cruz split to Mexico for a beach vacation, abandoning you & his pooch Snowflake to freeze without safe water" noted a tweet, while a user posted a picture of the poodle looking through a glass door saying, "We are all Snowflake tonight."

A user mentioned how the house was "unbearably cold", saying, "According to Heidi Cruz and her Lovelies group chat, their house is unbearably cold. So cold that they couldn’t stay there last night, so they abandon their dog, Snowflake."

'DOG is spelt GOD backwards'

Many dwelt on the irony of the pet poodle's name. "Ted Cruz's poodle is named snowflake... So a snowflake left snowflake while his state was hit with snowflakes? Got it!" said a tweet. "O/ Peak 2021 | The poodle left behind in the house Heidi said was freezing is named 'Snowflake'. That's 11 different kinds of irony right there. A 'security guard' in the SUV outside said he was 'caring' for the dog. Hey, @TedCruz! Remember "DOG is GOD spelled backwards!" said another user.

"The poodle's name appears to be Snowflake. Which is probably how it felt being left behind without heat in subzero weather," wrote a user. People started using the hashtag #FreeSnowflake and saying, "Snowflake is a liberal Democrat and a member of the Resistance. #FreeSnowflake".

Another spoke to Snowflake directly, saying, "Dear #Snowflake come to the Colorado. We has the snow but also we has power, jackets and hoomans who don’t ditch us to fly to Mexico #istandwithsnowflake".

'What do his daughters think?'

A user said, "Opinion | What did @TedCruz's daughters think about leaving #Snowflake in the house Heidi said they were fleeing because it was #freezing? These are the kinds of memories that can scar a child! And they may never speak of it." Another said, "Ted Cruz neglects his dog Snowflake just like he neglects his responsibilities as a Senator, a husband, a father, and American, and a human being."  

"Do you think Ted Cruz called his dog Snowflake because he thinks it's easily offended and he hates it as much as he hates his wife and daughters?" said a tweet. Another Twitter user posted a video of what appeared to be the senator trying to kiss his daughter's cheek, as the child moved her face away.

"On behalf of Snowflake and more than 60% of the United States, I demand that Ted Cruz resign. (ps No daughter who actually likes her father ever reacts like this.)" read the tweet.
