Hillary Clinton was pleased when Beyonce used '92 campaign quote in her performance: 'I broke out in a smile'

This year's Sundance Film Festival saw the likes of a four-hour docu-series featuring Hillary Clinton, called 'Hillary.' The Secretary of State and the first woman presidential nominee brings up feminism and the fact that she has never taken her husband's last name. She is seen speaking about a quote she's is famously known for, “I suppose I could have stayed home and baked cookies and had teas, but what I decided was to fulfill my profession.”

In a recent interview with Variety, Clinton touches on misogyny involved in political candidates, and why actor Greta Gerwig from 'Little Women' should have gone home with an Academy Award for best direction.

The upcoming documentary brings up her comments from 1992 where she says she'd want to pursue a career instead of baking cookies and in 2016, singer Beyonce had performed a campaign for Clinton using the same quote. Clinton expanded on this experience saying, "I did not know that Beyonce was going to use that quote from the ’92 campaign about following my profession. But when I saw that set up on stage, and that was going to be prominently featured, I thought: 'Good for you! I mean, 'Really good for you.' Her career trajectory has demonstrated clearly how she’s embraced feminism and stood up for herself and spoken out. And for her to adopt that and use it as a theme for her support of my campaign really made me just break out in a huge smile."

Bringing in the controversy of the Oscars nominating only male directors this year, Clinton elaborated on her feelings, "I think it’s really a shame, especially because there were so many notable films this year by women directors. And you know, I know they’re making an effort, and I applaud them for their effort. But I really hope that it’s not just an effort; it produces some results and the work that women are doing and the importance of it is recognized by the Academy every year."

She further explained her thoughts on the need to acknowledge impeccable female directions tying in that 'Little Women' was her favorite movie this past year. "Well, I loved “Little Women.” So I thought [director Greta Gerwig] should have been nominated. I really thought she deserved it because I thought it was beautifully done. And the way that it was constructed, made the best use of the book."
