SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH: In a heated trial over the 2016 ski-slope accident that retired ophthalmologist claims left him severely brain-damaged, Gwyneth Paltrow testified on Friday, March 24, that she believed she was being sexually assaulted while skiing in Utah. The founder of 'Goop' recounted being "extremely upset" at the time she believes retired ophthalmologist Terry Sanderson collided with her.

Paltrow testified in court and provided the jury with her version of the ski slope accident in Deer Valley. She claimed that the skier, Dr Sanderson, approached her from behind, slid his skis in between her knees, and then pressed his body against her back. Paltrow, 50, had been disputing Sanderson's claims that she carelessly collided with him on the Utah mountainside of Deer Valley and permanently changed the path of his life, New York Post reported.

'I was confused at first'

Paltrow recalled, "I was confused at first, and I didn’t know exactly what was happening. It’s a very strange thing to be happening on a ski slope. I froze, and I would say I got very upset a couple seconds later." As Sanderson's attorney questioned Paltrow, she described why she initially believed herself to be a victim of sexual assault.

"So that was a quick thought that went through my head when I was trying to reconcile what was happening," Paltrow said in the courtroom. "Two skis came between my skis forcing my legs apart and then a body pressed against me. My brain was trying to make sense of what is happening." She went on saying, "I thought, ‘Is this a practical joke? Is someone doing something perverted?’ My mind was going very, very quickly, and my mind was trying to ascertain what happened," as per Fox News.

When the two fell to the ground, Paltrow said it felt like they were "spooning." She further clarified that she is not alleging that she was sexually assaulted; rather, that is simply "what went through [her] mind when it happened." During her almost two hours on the stand, Paltrow firmly asserted that Sanderson skied right into her back.

On Monday, March 27, the jury will likely hear testimony from Paltrow's children Apple, 18, and Moses, 16, as well as her spouse Brad Falchuk. The plaintiff's attorneys will rest their case on the same day that Sanderson takes the witness stand.

An 'awful experience'

Terry Sanderson, 76, is suing Paltrow for $300,000, claiming that the actress skied into him from behind at Utah's Deer Valley Resort in 2016 and left him with serious injuries. Shae Hareth, Sanderson's daughter, testified in court prior to Paltrow's testimony. She alleged that he is easily distracted and remembered an "awful experience" that harmed Sanderson's bond with his granddaughter.

Why did Sanderson sue Paltrow?

A 2019 lawsuit claims that Paltrow and Sanderson are engaged in litigation after a 2016 ski crash that badly damaged the retired ophthalmologist. Doctors have largely provided testimony up to this point, discussing Sanderson's health both before and after the crash.

Sanderson claimed he was the victim of a hit-and-run when he initially sued the actress, Deer Valley Resort, and an instructor for $3.1 million. The complaint against Deer Valley Resort and the instructor was dismissed by the judge.

Not every man who approaches you, can you accuse of SA, or say "you were afraid of SA". This is getting out of control." "She is soooo weird!!!!" typed another. A third one wrote, "My dislike for her just keeps growing."
