'Grey's Anatomy' Season 16: Meredith heading towards another love triangle in a pattern that is getting annoying

Many of the plotlines of 'Grey's Anatomy' in this season are rather predictable, dragging and frustrating.

Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) is famous for getting caught in uneasy love triangles. This pattern was observed from the early days of 'Grey's Anatomy', where Derek (Patrick Dempsey) had to choose between her and his wife Addison (Kate Walsh). In the beginning, he chose Addison, but of course, ended up with Meredith before his death in Season 11. Not just this, in the middle of season 2, Meredith began to date Finn, which caused more tension with Derek. These love triangles are a common theme in 'Grey's, but more so with Meredith. In Season 15, right before she got into a relationship with Andrew DeLuca (Giacomo Gianniotti), she found herself in a twisted triangle with another handsome doctor in the hospital.

And now, once again, the series is gravitating towards the same pattern. DeLuca broke up with Meredith, as he believes that she needs time to figure out whether she really wants him or not.

He might have to reconsider, as there's a new surly Irish doctor in the hospital, who questions Meredith at every step. Sigh, yawn. We know this too well. It's the plotline of every Mills & Boon tale - arrogant man, strong woman, and boom! Love story. And here, this man named Cormac has a tragic past, which is enough reason for him to have complicated liasons with Meredith. His wife is dead.

This man is a 'package' that Meredith's person and best friend Cristina Yang sent for her, as she had just convinced the medical board that she deserves her license. 'McWidow' is thy name, and god we hope this name does NOT stick.

So now what will happen to MerDeLuca?

Enough with the endless triangles, 'Grey's Anatomy'! It's getting tiring and we know the patterns way too well now. Probably, Meredith has a steamy affair with McWidow and then realises her feelings for DeLuca. Or maybe, her close association with McWidow causes more complications with DeLuca, and he might sleep with someone out of anger... because that's what everyone does on these shows when they're upset.

Truth to be told, many of the plotlines of 'Grey's Anatomy' in this season are rather draggy and frustrating. Jo (Camilla Luddington) just stole a baby, Maggie's (Kelly McReary) losing her nerve at work, Bailey's (Chandra Wilson) had a miscarriage and for the nth time in the show, there's a car crash.

Out of ideas, are we?

'Grey's Anatomy' will air on ABC on January 23.
