'Grey's Anatomy' Season 16 Episode 4 review: Meredith puts Grey Sloan in trouble, but the proposal and pregnancy news work as a good distraction

If we look at the big picture, 'Grey's Anatomy' seems to be tumbling down the road. Some scenes and plotlines are getting a tad bit boring and repetitive.

The review contains spoilers for 'Grey's Anatomy' Season 16 Episode 4 — 'It's Rainin' Men'.

With the fourth episode of 'Grey's Anatomy' Season 16, the makers seem to be losing their grip on the plot of the show. Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) is woken up by an alarming alert from Maggie Pierce (Kelly McCreary) and Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone) that her controversial article is out. Apparently, Meredith sent out a listicle of ideas to be developed into a proper article but without any information, the website put it out with the headline: "Hospital Hell at Grey Sloan Memorial, Fired Surgeon Speaks Out."

"This is every idea I gave them without the context and explanation," she says, and both Meredith and Andrew DeLuca (Giacomo Gianniotti) worry about how Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson) will "kill" them. Bailey is having a panic attack after she finds out that the Chief Resident quit. "Do you feel this article is an accurate representation of our hospital?" she asks DeLuca and tells him to take charge.

Her anxiety rises up to the level that she has a heart attack scare, only that it's just a scare. Bailey worries it's her "menopause" kicking in but the big shocker comes in when Maggie blatantly breaks to her that she is "pregnant." "You are both perimenopausal and pregnant. Please tell me you don't plan to keep this a secret," she tells her as she blankly looks across at her.

The interns are worried about working at Grey Sloan but some of them defend it saying, "It's about the whole healthcare system not about this place." Concerned about the bag name of the hospital she owns, Meredith takes a leave from her community service and comes to clear things out with Bailey but the latter kicks her out. "You can sit there and say those moving words but the damage has been done," Bailey tells Meredith.

The consequences are big as several surgeons start quitting the place and patients say no to treatment. Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) — who is on "paternity leave" as long as Tom Koracick's (Greg Germann) restraining order lasts — helps Nico Kim (Alex Landi) take a severe patient to Pac-North. The title 'It's Rainin' Men' is a subtle hint to a new case where a man falls out of a plane and lands on a woman. The latter's injuries are severe and Teddy Altman (Kim Raver) takes the case in her hands.

Amid the major surgeries, Koracick lines up a surgery on a three-year-old for free if the parents allow him to film it for a news story. Jackson Avery (Jesse Williams) gives Koracick a piece of his mind and successfully operates on the little girl along with Amelia but without the cameras. Jackson truly shows him who is the real boss. What's more, when Koracick finally tries to make up to Owen saying, "I am dropping the restraining order, " Owen tells him he has a new job at Pac-North.

Well, that's not all. Wait for the heartwarming proposal as Link (Chris Carmack) finally confesses his feelings to Amelia. "I think I'm in love with you... I am feeling it, it's a feeling I like, it's a feeling I want to name," he says as Amelia lies on top of him and the "cute couple" share a lovely moment. And oh, Cristina (Sandra Oh) is alive! Meredith's article seems to have caught too many eyeballs as she gets a text message from Cristina saying, "Move to Switzerland before Bailey murders you in your sleep."

If we look at the big picture, the series seems to be tumbling down the road. Some scenes and plotlines are getting a tad bit boring and repetitive. Fans do need a major shake-up if the makers really need to keep them glued to the screens. The only idea that seems to be working is how the doctors and surgeons are slowly moving to Pac-North with Alex Karev (Justin Chambers) as the head. That seems to be the only angle with a fresh lick of paint in the dull canvas of TV's longest-running medical drama.
