'Grey's Anatomy' Season 16 Episode 17: Jackson Avery has another breakup, fans say he's just being 'toxic'
Jackson Avery's most profound relationship on 'Grey's Anatomy', was with April Kepner (Sara Drew). She eloped with him on the day of her wedding to someone else, the two had and lost a child together and then had a baby girl named Harriet. However, while they loved each other dearly, they could never overcome their issues and the void that the death of their first baby left behind.
And so, Jackson moved ahead with Maggie Pierce (Kelly McCreary), broke up with her and then dated Victoria. Unfortunately, their relationship just crashed and burned, and now it remains to be seen whether Jackson will return to Maggie. In one of the episodes, Maggie had pointed out he just jumps from one relationship to another, without grieving the old one.
Just before we progress with that thought, let's take a minute of silence to remember that Jackson once had strong emotional depth and wasn't just being shunted around from woman to woman. His character peaked with the whole April storyline. Recall those emotional moments and heartbreaking scenes between the two of them? An atheist, he actually prayed to God to ask for her recovery, when she almost died from drowning. Their romance had built over the years, from being best friends to lovers, to husband and wife, and then painful exes. But that was the time 'Grey's Anatomy' had powerful storylines that could touch an emotional chord. Sadly, April left to be with Matthew Taylor and Jackson was there at their wedding.
Even though his romance with Maggie was rather pale, somehow fans still want him to get back with her and are just not having his romance with Vic....or whoever she is. To be honest, Jackson has just come across as a rather douchey, confused playboy for the last couple of seasons. Or let's put it politely, he's just rather toxic. He barely has a personality anymore.
