The original drama series 'Greenleaf' plunges into the unscrupulous world of the Greenleaf family and their sprawling Memphis megachurch, overshadowed by numerous scandalous secrets and lies. Did you know the drama-series was Wednesday Night's No. 1 original cable series for African-American women and has garnered a viewership of more than three million viewers in each of its three seasons?

The series revolves around the Greenleaf family, who love and care for one another, but beneath the surface lies a den of iniquity — greed, adultery, sibling rivalry, and conflicting values — that threatens to tear apart the very core of their faith that holds them together.

Plot

The official plot summary reads: "Season four finds the Greenleafs attempting to maintain a united front in the face of losing Calvary to Bob Whitmore (Beau Bridges) and Harmony & Hope Ministries, but secrets past and present create what could be fatal fractures in the family’s fragile foundation. Lady Mae (Lynn Whitfield) and Grace (Merle Dandridge) form an uneasy alliance as they endeavor to reclaim their church from Harmony & Hope — Grace from within the church where she's operating as interim head pastor and Lady Mae using her persuasive ways from the outside."

"However, Grace's mission becomes complicated when a mysterious phone call sets in motion a chain of events that threatens to reveal her biggest secret yet. The Bishop (Keith David) continues working to mend his rift with his wife Lady Mae, while day by day Harmony & Hope’s grip on Calvary tightens."

Merle Dandridge

Merle Dandridge plays the role of Grace Greenleaf in the show. Widely known for her role in 'Half-Life 2', she also starred in television series like 'Sons of Anarchy' and 'The Night Shift'. Dandridge is also a singer who performed in a number of stage productions, including Broadway musicals Jesus Christ Superstar, Spamalot, and Rent. 

Keith David

Keith David plays the role of Bishop James Greenleaf in the show. The actor is known for his role in 'Platoon' and 'Childs in The Thing'. He has acted in several mainstream films such as 'Crash', 'There's Something About Mary', 'Barbershop' and 'Men at Work'.

The other actors from the cast include Lynn Whitfield as Lady Mae Greenleaf, Kim Hawthorne as Kerissa Greenleaf, Lamman Rucker as Jacob Greenleaf, Tye White as Kevin Satterlee, Deborah Joy Winans as Charity Greenleaf-Satterlee, Desiree Ross as Sophia, and Oprah Winfrey (Selma) in a recurring role as Mavis McCready.

The show has been written and created by Craig Wright. The writer and producer is known for his work on shows like 'Six Feet Under', 'Lost' and the television series 'Dirty Sexy Money'. 

Wright is the executive producer along with Clement Virgo, Kriss Turner Towner, and Oprah Winfrey. 'Greenleaf' is produced for OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network by Lionsgate in association with Harpo Films and Pine City.
