Tom Hanks's son Chet Haze's Jamaican patois rap on Golden Globes red carpet is the most awkward thing ever
The 77th Golden Globes night turned out to be more eventful than people had anticipated.
Of the many deserving awards of the evening, legendary actor Tom Hanks was presented with the Cecil B. DeMille Award for his extensive repertoire and contribution to Hollywood. Joining him was his family — wife Rita Wilson, and children Colin, Chet, Truman, and Elizabeth. But it was his 29-year old son Chet who made headlines with his red carpet presence.
Chet, who also goes by the name Chet Haze, has been a rapper. At the Golden Globes 2020, he rapped away in Jamaican patois and shared the same on his Instagram profile. While his mother Rita commented on the video and considered it to be "the best laugh of the night", netizens have been saying otherwise.
He captioned his rap video saying, “BIG UP FIMI WHOL FAMILY SOON COM AT DI AWARDS NA SEEN,' and he captioned the clip. 'CHUNE IN.'” This baffled the Twitteratis and they were ‘disturbed’ and found it ‘chaotic’, according to a report by Daily Mail.
One fan commented, "Ok now this was funny at first ... but now this just disrespectful. Be yourself DAMN."
Some fans said, "I can't describe how deeply my soul has been disturbed. I thought he gave up the appropriation after rehab?! I know he’s Tom’s biggest disappointment lol.”
But not all Twitter fans are of the same opinion. There are some people who have a positive reaction to the video. "I don’t know about being disappointed because Chet was awesome on Empire, and phenomenally talented not only in acting but singing and rapping," shared a fan.
Another fan joins in with the same views saying, "Best part of the golden globes is all the screentime chet haze is getting." A third fan added, "This is the best Golden Globes because it's the only one to have multiple shots of Chet Haze."
However, this is not the first time Haze has been under the social media scanner. In 2015, he was slammed for using defamatory language in one of his raps, for which he apologized later.
Along with Chet, his father also became the subject of memes on his reaction to Ricky Gervais' monologue at the 77th Golden Globe opening. When asked about his son's rap video, he said that he found it to be "ridiculous".
