This might raise a storm on Twitter. However, much to the joy of many fans, Joaquin Phoenix won Best Actor for his scintillating performance in Todd Phillips 'Joker' at the 77th Annual Golden Globes Awards.

The 'Joker' had stirred endless controversy and debates, and many questions were raised on whether it could incite violence. Yet, all said and done, Phoenix's performance as the notorious DC villain, is known to have received an eight-minute standing ovations at film festivals.

The other nominations in the category included:

Christian Bale in 'Ford v. Ferrari'
Antonio Banderas in 'Pain and Glory'
Adam Driver in 'Marriage Story'
Jonathan Pryce in 'The Two Popes'

'Joker' narrated the story of loner Arthur Fleck, a man pushed to the periphery of society, and his final devolvement into the world of crime and how he incites citywide riots.

The film continues to be the subject of heated discussion, even months after its release. And going by Joaquin's win today, the discussion will not be ending anytime soon.

Meanwhile, at the Golden Globes 2020,  Awkwafina won Best Actress for 'The Farewell', Brad Pitt won Best Supporting Actor for 'Once Upon A Time In Hollywood', Russell Crowe won Best Actor In Limited Series or TV Movie for 'The Loudest Voice', and Phoebe Waller-Bridge won Best Actress for Comedy for 'Fleabag', which has received rave reviews from critics and audience alike.

'Succession' won Best Drama series and 'Parasite' has won for Best Foreign Language film.
