Amazon Prime Video Has Canceled 6 Shows in 2026, Including The Boys Spinoff and a Planned Stargate Revival
Kevin
Prime Video's adult animated comedy Kevin has been canceled after just one season, with co-creator Aubrey Plaza confirming the news on Instagram. The series followed a cat named Kevin who ends up at a New York animal rescue after his owners split up. The voice cast included Jason Schwartzman, Whoopi Goldberg, and Plaza. Reacting to the cancellation, Plaza wrote, “Very disappointing since we were just getting going,” before thanking viewers and praising the cast and crew who helped bring the project to life.
Gen V
Gen V, the popular The Boys spinoff set at Godolkin University, was canceled after two seasons despite earning strong reviews. The series followed young superheroes competing for fame while uncovering secrets hidden within their college. According to Deadline, executive producers Eric Kripke and Evan Goldberg confirmed the show would not continue, but assured fans the characters' journeys are not over. “While we wish we could keep the party going another season at Godolkin, we’re committed to continuing the Gen V characters’ stories in The Boys Season 5 and other VCU projects on the horizon,” they said, “You’ll see them again.”
The Runarounds
Musical drama The Runarounds was canceled after one season in April. Created by Outer Banks co-creator Jonas Pate, the series followed recent high school graduates who formed a rock band while dealing with friendship, ambition, and life after graduation. The show was loosely inspired by a real band formed during the Outer Banks casting process. After debuting with eight episodes in 2025, it was not renewed. The real band later wrote on Instagram, “While the TV series may have come to a close, as a band we’re here to stay. This is merely the end of one chapter and the beginning of a new one.”
Hazbin Hotel
Prime Video has confirmed that Hazbin Hotel will conclude with its fifth season, giving the animated musical comedy three additional seasons before its planned ending. The series centers on Charlie Morningstar, the princess of Hell, who launches a hotel aimed at helping sinners earn redemption. Originally released as a YouTube pilot in 2019, the show later moved to Prime Video, where its first season debuted in 2024. Meanwhile, Season 3 is already in production, though a premiere date has not yet been announced.
Stargate reboot
Prime Video canceled its planned ‘Stargate’ revival before production even began, according to Variety. Announced in November 2025, the project was being developed by Martin Gero, a veteran writer from Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis, and was intended to introduce a new chapter in the franchise. Variety reported that concerns about attracting viewers beyond the existing fanbase contributed to the decision. Following the cancellation, longtime franchise writer Joseph Mallozzi reacted on X, saying his “heart breaks” over the project's fate.
