Why Did I Get Married Again? Cast: Meet the Stars Returning for Tyler Perry’s Netflix Sequel

Tyler Perry returns as Terry, a “pediatrician whose medical skills have come in handy more than once during their group trips.” He “often anchors the group with his calm and sense of perspective.” Notably, Perry not only stars in the franchise but also directed all three movies. He has made a name for himself in the acting world, appearing in projects like Beauty in Black, Madea’s Destination Wedding, Meet the Browns, The Family That Preys, Joe’s College Road Trip, and Gone Girl. 

Sharon Leal comes back as Diane, an “ambitious litigator who has worked hard to find the balance between family and work.” As per Netflix, “She and Terry [her husband] have faced their fair share of ups and downs, but these days they’re very steady — almost too steady.” Leal is best known for her roles in Addicted, Soul Men, Blindfire, Dreamgirls, Freedom, and The Last Letter.

Tasha Smith once again plays Angela. About her character’s storyline, Netflix reveals, “For years, Angela ran a successful haircare line. She and her husband Marcus have always had a fiery relationship — her signature shriek ‘Marcus!’ is a franchise mainstay — but when the movie opens, they claim they haven’t fought in years. After all, they’ve been a little preoccupied as mother and father of the bride-to-be.” Smith’s notable credits include Survival of the Thickest, For Better or Worse, Daddy’s Little Girls, Jumping the Broom, Couples Retreat, and The Whole Ten Yards.

Michael Jai White is also back in the role of Marcus, Angela’s husband and a former football star. He is “threatened by his future son-in-law Wesley’s (Everett Osbourne) buzzy athletic future. Marcus will do whatever it takes to prove he’s still got it to the younger generation — including showing off in the weight room.” Fans may recognize Jai White from Blood and Bone, Spawn, Black Dynamite, Trouble Man, Falcon Rising, Oscar Shaw, and As Good as Dead, among other projects.

Jill Scott returns to the franchise as Sheila, Troy’s wife. According to Netflix, “These days, Sheila has her hands full taking care of her mother, who is sick with Alzheimer’s disease. And if that wasn’t enough to worry about, she inadvertently gets entangled in an argument between bride and groom.” Scott has also appeared in First Wives Club, The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency, Steel Magnolias, Baggage Claim, and Sins of the Mother.

Lamman Rucker slips back into the role of Troy, who “runs a grass-cutting company alongside his wife Sheila.” The two “met in Colorado during Why Did I Get Married? — so naturally their son’s name is inspired by the snowy state.” And that’s right, their son’s name is Denver. Meanwhile, Rucker’s most recognizable roles include Meet the Browns, The Man in 3B, Christmas Everyday, The Bachelor Party, N-Secure, and The Greatest Song. 

Richard T. Jones brings Mike back to life in Why Did I Get Married Again? And it seems like the threequel is going to be awkward for his character. Netflix teases his storyline: “Because of how he’s treated Sheila over the years, Mike is not beloved by the group, but always begrudgingly included. He turns up with a much younger girlfriend, Regina — who happens to have unexpected ties to the celebration. Somehow, Mike’s younger partner has inexplicably helped him regrow his hair.” Outside of the franchise, Jones has starred in The Wood, Lockdown, The Rookie, A Question of Faith, Event Horizon, and Hot Pursuit.
