Which MobLand Stars Are And Aren’t Returning for Seasons 2 After Rumors of Firing

In May, reports were circulating that Tom Hardy, who plays Harry Da Souza, would not return to the show, but those reports were actually about Season 3. At the time, Season 2 production had already wrapped. Hardy and the series’ writer and showrunner, Jez Butterworth, were reportedly having issues working together, with Deadline pointing out that one of the main points of friction was Hardy’s “chronic lateness to set.” But that has all been resolved, and it is now confirmed that he will be in the newly renewed Season 3. Harry is the “fixer for London’s Harrigan crime family,” whose “loyalties have grown increasingly complicated as he heads into Season 2.”

Pierce Brosnan is also coming back to reprise his role as Conrad Harrigan, the “ruthless patriarch of North London’s preeminent crime family.” Paramount teases that “Conrad’s decisions are getting increasingly chaotic with age. He’s guided by his cunning wife, Maeve (Helen Mirren), as he engages in a ruthless power struggle in Season 2.” At the series premiere in central London, Brosnan dismissed rumors of an on-set feud with co-star Tom Hardy as a “storm in a teacup.” As quoted by The Independent, he said, “I love the dude. I love Tom Hardy. I’m a massive fan of the man’s work. Truly. We are rock solid as a company, as a family.” 

Oscar winner Helen Mirren slips back into the role of Maeve Harrigan, the matriarch of the Harrigan crime family. She’s a “political mastermind” who “wields massive influence over the entire Harrigan crew.” While talking with Entertainment Weekly, Mirren reveals what to expect from her character in Season 2: “It’s a gothic fantasy, and I so enjoy playing the extreme, the over the top, the fantastical. There was a great tradition of playwriting in the Jacobean era, and it’s got that Jacobean feel about it, in the sense that these plays were all about jealousy, violence, cruelty, torture, love, and really extreme human emotions, and then played out with extreme actions. To me, that’s what MobLand has.” 

Paddy Considine once again plays Kevin Harrigan, the younger brother of the Harrigan family, in Season 2 of MobLand. Kevin is “his father’s heir apparent. His attempts at being a family man are thwarted by the demands of his criminal enterprises, and his career ambitions are growing after the events of Season 1.”

The wife of fixer Harry Da Souza, Jan Da Souza, played by Joanne Froggatt, is also part of the Season 2 cast. Jan is “her husband’s emotional anchor. But by the end of Season 1, she wants a divorce and is so filled with frustration that she sticks a knife in her husband’s chest to get one.” Season 2 will pick up from that cliffhanger, but fans should not worry too much because how would the show continue if it lost its main star?

Lara Pulver also returns to reprise the role of Bella Harrigan, the “listless wife” of Kevin Harrigan. She is “next in line to be matriarch of the Harrigan crime family, though her relationship with her husband has weakened due to his loyalties. Bella finds herself embroiled in even more politics during Season 2.”
