RJ Decker Season 2 Cast: Scott Speedman Returns With Familiar Faces and New Additions
Scott Speedman as R.J. Decker
Scott Speedman is back as R.J. Decker, the lead character of the series. Decker is a “former newspaper photographer and ex-con” who “reinvents himself as a private investigator in South Florida.” Speedman has teased that Season 2 “upped the stakes” when it comes to the action set pieces. Speaking with The Independent, he revealed, “The show just feels a bit bigger, which I know the network’s happy about, and frankly, so am I.”
Jaina Lee Ortiz as Emilia “Emi” Ochoa
Jaina Lee Ortiz is also returning as Emilia “Emi” Ochoa in Season 2. Emi is the daughter of Victor Ochoa, and his death is going to create tension between her and R.J. As showrunner Rob Doherty told TV Insider, Victor’s death will “disrupt the Emi and R.J. relationship.” He explained, “[That’s] not just because each can, will, and should be looked at as suspects, but Emi’s going to carry some guilt. She didn’t see any of this coming, but the truth is she teed him up for an arrest, and the arrest made him a vulnerability to someone else, someone to be identified.”
Bevin Bru as Detective Melody “Mel” Abreu
Bevin Bru slips back into the role of Detective Melody “Mel” Abreu in Season 2. In R.J. Decker, Mel is Catherine’s wife and a Fort Lauderdale police detective who often crosses paths with R.J. because of her job. In a recent interview with TV Fanatic, Bru admitted, “It’s been my dream to play a detective on TV for seven years.” She also opened up about Mel’s relationship with Decker, describing it as “very brother, sister. Banter. Love, hate. Get along, tease.” Bru added, “Mel respects him as this PI, but also, Mel is order. Mel is by the book. And then you have RJ, who’s chaos. He is just wacky and wild and doing things his way. This dynamic — it just makes the craziness so fun.”
Kevin Rankin as Aloysius “Wish” Aiken
In Season 2, Kevin Rankin reprises the role of Aloysius “Wish” Aiken. Wish is R.J.’s former prison cellmate who now owns a local bar. He is one of R.J.’s most trusted friends and confidants, often lending his support to the private investigator whenever he needs it. In an interview with Us Weekly, Rankin teased that Season 2 marks “a new time for the Scooby Gang.” He noted, “We’re getting a little more organized. We’re becoming more of a team. It’s about starting anew. RJ’s out in the world now. So we’re just trying to figure out what it’s like to be truly free.”
Adelaide Clemens as Catherine Delacroix
Adelaide Clemens is back for another season as Catherine Delacroix, R.J.’s bisexual ex-wife, who is now married to Detective Melody “Mel” Abreu of the Fort Lauderdale Police Department. Catherine works as an investigative journalist for the newspaper that previously employed R.J. as a photographer. She also comes in handy when R.J. finds himself caught up in his unconventional investigations. In the same Us Weekly interview, Clemens teased that fans can expect “family complications” in Season 2. She stated, “You also gotta be worried, because when someone that powerful is under, things get messy.”
David Zayas as Victor Ochoa
Those who watched R.J. Decker Season 1 know that David Zayas’ return as Victor Ochoa is almost impossible in Season 2. Zayas played the corrupt Florida state senator and businessman, as well as the father of Emi and Lucas. In the Season 1 finale, Victor was found dead in his own swimming pool, and finding out who k*lled him becomes one of the main mysteries of Season 2. So, a traditional return for Zayas seems out of the question, unless the creators have a surprise up their sleeves. But, fans could still see Victor through flashbacks if the story revisits events from before his death.
Beau Bridges as Reggie Decker
Beau Bridges joins Season 2 as Reggie Decker, R.J.’s estranged father and a charming but unreliable entrepreneur. His return puts R.J. on the back foot and opens the door to more details about his complicated childhood and past.
