6 New Movies and TV Shows to Watch This Weekend on HBO, Paramount+, Hulu and More
It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia Season 18
Season 18 of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia premiered on August 17 with a two-episode launch on FXX and FX. Following that, the 10-episode season is set to air weekly on Mondays through October 12. New installments are also available to stream the following day on Hulu. The new season’s logline reads: “Charlie (Charlie Day), Mac (Rob McElhenney), Dennis (Glenn Howerton), Dee (Kaitlin Olson), and Frank (Danny DeVito) are wrapped up in salvaging inheritances from a dead woman, surviving tent encampments and the great inside-outside divide between the haves and have-nots, withstanding job loss at the hands of workplace automation, embracing a newfound appreciation for neurodivergence, questioning the fabric of society against conspiracy theories, and of course — the biggest elephant in the room — outlasting the public’s pendulum swing against drinking.”
Don’t Say Good Luck
Don’t Say Good Luck is a musical comedy-drama that follows Sophie Birenbaum (Sunny Sandler), who is “ready for the spotlight as the lead in her high school musical — until suddenly she’s living with even more drama at home than on the stage.” The coming-of-age film is currently available to stream on Netflix after its release on August 14.
Outer Banks Season 5
Outer Banks Season 5 was released on Netflix on August 20. And the best part? All 10 episodes of the final season dropped at once. That’s what we binge-watchers love most! Season 5 “finds the Pogues at their absolute breaking point following the tragic loss of JJ in Morocco. Stranded far from home and mourning the heart of their crew, they’ve lost the Blue Crown and continue to face a gauntlet of familiar threats.” As Netflix puts it, “It’s no longer ‘a good time, all the time’ for the Pogues.”
Normal
The neo-western thriller Normal stars Bob Odenkirk as Sheriff Ulysses. The official synopsis reads: “After a botched bank robbery, the interim sheriff in a small Minnesota town uncovers a conspiracy involving an international crime syndicate.” The film was originally released in theaters on April 17 and became available to stream on HBO Max on August 14. So, if you’ve been waiting to stream it from the comfort of your home or want to rewatch it, now is the time!
Average Joe Season 2
Average Joe Season 2 premiered on Paramount+ on August 19. After debuting with two episodes, the dark comedy-drama is set to follow a weekly release schedule, with new episodes airing every Wednesday until the finale. The new chapter “picks up right after the events of Season 1. Joe Washington (Deon Cole) thinks he can finally move forward after tying up the loose ends his criminally enmeshed father left behind. But a new threat soon plunges Joe and his family back into the treacherous world connected to his dad’s history.”
Facing El Chapo
Facing El Chapo is another crime thriller movie, but it arrives on a different platform with a different storyline. The feature film, starring Alfonso Herrera and Noé Hernández, follows “two Mexican officers [who] must survive the final hours of their shift after crossing a ruthless cartel boss in this crime drama based on true events.” Fans can watch Facing El Chapo on Netflix, where it debuted on August 21.
