X-Men Reboot Full Cast List: Adam Driver, Inde Navarrette And More Confirmed at D23
Sadie Sink as Jean Grey
Only those who have been living under a rock would not know that Stranger Things star Sadie Sink is confirmed to play Jean Grey in X-Men reboot even before D23 announcement. Marvel Studios and Sony tried to hide her role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day for months. When the film arrived in theaters, it was officially proven that she was indeed stepping into the role of Jean Grey. According to Marvel, “An extraordinary telepath and telekinetic, Jean Grey learns to better harness her psionic powers and joins the X-Men as a founding member.” The character was previously played by Famke Janssen and Sophie Turner in earlier films. Sink has also appeared in The Whale, Dear Zoe, A Sacrifice, among other projects.
Kit Connor as Cyclops
Reports had been circulating online that Kit Connor was being considered for the role of Scott Summers, aka Cyclops. Now, it has been confirmed. Yes, Jean Grey’s husband will be brought to life by the Heartstopper star. Cyclops’ character description reads, “From a stoic leader of the X-Men to a hardened radical, Cyclops is always true to mutantkind and determined to make Xavier’s dream of peace between mutants and humans a reality.” He is known for projecting a “beam of heatless, ruby-colored concussive force from his eyes.” James Marsden and Tye Sheridan previously portrayed Cyclops. Apart from Heartstopper, Connor has appeared in Get Santa, Rocketman, and Little Joe.
Samara Weaving as Emma Frost
On July 31, Deadline reported that Samara Weaving had been cast to play Emma Frost. Sources told the publication that after auditioning multiple candidates, director Jake Schreier and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige decided to go with Weaving. Turns out, the sources were telling the truth. Honestly, Frost’s casting couldn’t be more perfect, as Weaving closely resembles the comic book character. According to Marvel’s character description, “As one of the most formidable psionic Mutants out there, Emma Frost is a Hellfire Club villain turned X-Man who uses her telepathic abilities and skills at manipulation to protect others, especially her fellow brethren.” Weaving is known for her roles in the Ready or Not franchise, The Babysitter, Over Your Dead Body, and Eenie Meanie.
Inde Navarrette as Rogue
Earlier, a Forbes report had provided a scoop when it came to the Rogue casting. According to multiple insiders, Cailee Spaeny was either being considered or had already been cast in the role. Well, it turns out that report was wrong. Inde Navarrette, the breakout star of Obsession, will actually play Rogue. Navarrette has also been featured in 13 Reasons Why, Superman & Lois, Trap House, and Wander Darkly. For those who don’t know, “Rogue’s signature power is the ability to absorb memories, powers, personality traits, physical talents, and strength from anyone she touches.” That is pretty cool, and Navarrette could make the character even cooler. Now, all she needs are the bangs!
Christopher Abbott as Professor X
Christopher Abbott has officially been cast as Professor Xavier in the reboot film. Abbott has a pretty good resume that includes roles in Wolf Man, Girls, Sanctuary, Bring Them Down, Catch-22, and Poor Things, among other projects. With this experience, he seems well suited for the role of Charles Francis Xavier, aka Professor X. According to Marvel, “Under the moniker ‘X,’ Professor X enters the Battlerealm to fight for mutantkind.” The character description also states, “While traveling the world, young mutant telepath Charles Xavier befriended fellow mutant Magnus (Max Eisenhardt), but their dichotomous beliefs on mutant/human relations drove a wedge between them.”
Maya Boyd as Storm
In the same Forbes report, Sinners star Jayme Lawson was mentioned as the top contender for the role of Storm. Well, that also turned out to be wrong. The role has gone to Maya Boyd, who is relatively new to Hollywood. Her acting credits so far include Deadbeat, a short film, and multiple Broadway shows. But it’s not like this is the first time a big franchise has introduced a fresh face. It has happened many times before, so Boyd’s casting isn’t exactly unusual. Meanwhile, as per the character’s official bio, “Ororo Munroe, AKA Storm, is one of the most famous and powerful mutants on the planet.” She can “confound enemies of the X-Men by using her psionic abilities to manipulate the weather.”
Adam Driver as Mr. Sinister
In recent days, reports about Adam Driver’s casting have been the most confusing. He was rumored to be the favorite choice for Magneto. But then The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision newsletter hinted that he could instead be playing Sebastian Shaw. Now, however, we know the role he will actually be taking on. Marvel has cast Driver as Mr. Sinister. Nathaniel Essex, aka Mister Sinister, is an “immortal Victorian scientist and mutant obsessive” who “uses his expertise in genetics to create the perfect mutant race, procuring his subjects by any means necessary.”
