5 New TV Shows to Watch This Weekend on Netflix, HBO and More

To keep the weekend drama-filled, viewers should add The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip: Roaring 20th to their watchlist. Bravo celebrated 20 years of the franchise with this special iteration of its Ultimate Girls Trip spinoff, which premiered on August 9. The season has a total of nine episodes, airing weekly on Sundays on Bravo and the following day on Peacock. The main cast includes Vicki Gunvalson (Orange County), Luann de Lesseps (New York City), Porsha Williams (Atlanta), Teresa Giudice (New Jersey), Kyle Richards (Beverly Hills), Gizelle Bryant (Potomac), and Lisa Barlow (Salt Lake City). But, according to Bravo, “they won’t be alone, and when all is said and done, 82 ‘Wives from across all Real Housewives cities and eras will join in the party.”

Oh, how we missed our favorite Jack Reacher for over a year, but he’s finally back! Reacher Season 4 debuted on August 12 on Prime Video with the first three episodes. The rest of the eight-episode season will air weekly on Wednesdays through September 16. The fourth season is based on the 13th book, Gone Tomorrow, in Lee Child’s best-selling series. The logline reads, “When a chance encounter with a distraught stranger on a subway goes horribly wrong, Jack Reacher (Alan Ritchson) is drawn into a complex and deadly game that pits him against ruthless foes from the highest echelons of power.” Can’t wait to see him beat the criminals to a pulp!

Netflix has brought back Tires, so comedy fans don’t have to search far and wide for something to watch. Season 3 dropped all 12 episodes at once on August 13, meaning fans can keep hitting “next” without having to worry about waiting for another episode. For anyone new to the show, “Shane Gillis plays a guy named, well, Shane, who is about to become the bane of his relative’s existence. Tires follows Will (Steve Gerben), the anxious and seemingly unqualified heir of an auto repair chain, as he attempts to turn his dad’s business around despite constant torture from his cousin and now employee, Shane.”

Period drama fans will find My Brilliant Career to be the perfect choice. Netflix has adapted Miles Franklin’s classic novel of the same name into a new TV series. In it, “Aspiring writer and strong-willed rebel Sybylla Melvyn (Philippa Northeast) lives an idyllic farming life in the Australian bush.” When Sybylla’s wealthy grandmother invites her to stay at her estate, the Melvyns see it as an opportunity for her to make the debut in society. 

Meanwhile, Sybylla only accepts the invitation to gain experience for her first novel. But, “when she arrives, Sybylla finds herself distracted from her aspirations by the handsome foreman of her grandmother’s estate, Frank Hawden, and local society celebrity Harry Beecham.” It starts out all Little Women, then gets very TSITP. The six-episode series released on Netflix on August 13, with all six installments dropping at once.

Alright, enough about romance and period dramas, because superhero fans also have something to look forward to this weekend! After making fans wait for three years, Lanterns is finally delivering on its promise, debuting on August 16 on HBO and HBO Max. After that, the eight-episode DCU series will air weekly on Sundays until its finale on October 4. The show follows “new recruit John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) and Lantern legend Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler), two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, Earth-based mystery with cosmic ties as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.”
