Spoilers for 'Siren’ Season 3 Episode 2

The new mermaid, Tia (Tiffany Lonsdale), is determined to swipe people of the face of the earth. Years of captivity and torture has turned her into a merciless creature, whose evil streak seems to have no end.

Even a most meticulous Commander David Kyle (Michael J Rogers) fell prey to her vengeance, while Ryn Fisher (Eline Powell) continues to believe that a being of her kind could help in saving their community.

In Episode 2, Ben Pownall (Alex Roe) realizes that Kyle was killed by Tia and soon warns Ryn against the new mermaid’s real intentions. However, influenced by Tia’s words concerning the well-being of their fellow mermaids and the perils posed by mankind, Ryn decides to enlist the help of mermaids from her own tribe to support Tia.

Ryn may be too naive to distinguish good from evil, but the young mermaid from her tribe reads Tia’s mind and tells Ryn that she was not being presented with the entire truth.

However, before she could stop Tia from causing any more damage to the residents of the Bristol Cove, which could threaten their overall survival, the latter is seen in the deep waters of Carson Sound, waiting to claim Ben’s father’s life for the barbarous nature of the human ancestors that claimed lives of many mermaids back in the day.

On fighting Tia, Ryn learns that she underestimated the latter’s power and regrets agreeing to act in accordance with her plan. As the episode concludes, we can’t help but wonder if there’s more to Tia than meets the eye. The latest episode establishes that she despises mermaids from a different tribe as much as she hates humans.

Similarly, it also gives rise to endless questions as to what Tia’s ultimate motive is. Is she only after humans to reclaim her position in the ocean or do her intentions stretch beyond that? And is she planning on waging war against fellow mermaids as well to establish her dominance in the water?

And if Tia wages war against mankind, it remains to be seen if Ryn can finds ways to put an end to the former’s villainous streak and also save her human friends who don’t seem to stand a chance against Tia’s vengeance.

‘Siren’ Season 3 airs on Thursdays on Freeform.
