'Good Trouble' Season 2B: Though Malika's activism is inspiring, fans feel it is not the safest choice
Apart from setting a benchmark for its counterparts with its realistic approach towards Black Lives Matter, 'Good Trouble' Season 2B has also treated the moment as a touchstone to compare prevalent issues surrounding racial discrimination.
In the series, one of the residents of the Coterie, Malika Williams (Zuri Adele) has been at the forefront of Black Lives Matter, putting her life on the line for a victim of police brutality.
All along, Malika stood defiant against the system, fighting for a cause close to her heart. Her activism played a pivotal role in bringing justice to Jamal and also extended support to his grieving mother.
However, as observed in the previous episodes, her passion for the cause has inflicted too much damage on her and she wasn't aware of the heat she would be facing until the rubber hit the road.
When Malika was in deep trouble for violating Judge Curtis Wilson’s (Roger Bart) restraining order, she was presented with a deal that could help her evade jail time. Although bound by the fear of violence in prison and for lack of better options Malika accepts the deal, she eventually turns it down on learning that it would put an end to her activism.
Undoubtedly, Malika's passion for a cause close to her heart is admirable, inspirational even. But is she prepared to face the consequences of her actions yet?
Episode 13 of 'Good Trouble' Season 2B saw Malika make one of the toughest decisions of her life and fans feel she has made an unsafe choice. Besides creating a conversation of difference, her character has also caused a debate among the viewers.
Expressing their opinion on Malika's latest move, a viewer wrote on Reddit, "If I were her, I would've like just stayed the course and moved to like NYC after things calm down or something, and continued the activism somewhere else because no one said she had to give it up completely, just not to do it in LA county."
Meanwhile, a few feel violating her restraining order wasn't a wise thing to do. "I think fighting for what you believe in is great and admirable.... But there is also a reason why your allowed to protest in public places and not in peoples offices. Once you steal someone's credentials to get into a judges office to berate him..... That's crossing the line (sic)," wrote another.
However, the opportunity has already passed for Malika and now she needs to prepare herself to suffer at the hands of the law if it comes down to that.
'Good Trouble' Season 2B airs on Wednesdays on Freeform.
