Apple TV+'s new sci-fi series ‘Foundation’ has finally been released and the first two episodes are currently streaming on the platform. The show revolves around a group of people and their monumental journey to save humanity and rebuild civilization amid the fall of the Galactic Empire.

The first episode of the Apple TV+ show opened up with a math genius named Hari Seldon (Jared Harris) confirming the plotted theory that the Galactic Empire, a kingdom responsible for all humankind, is on the verge of collapsing. However, the rulers of planet Trantor feel that the entire theory is a hoax. The rulers take the decision of sending Hari and his followers to exile. They are exiled to a place called Terminus, an inhospitable planet that is thousands of light-years away. Most of the people on Hari’s team are geniuses and they all make an effort to have a better life on the planet. They take over the new habitat as they make plans for the unforeseen future ahead.

'Foundation' Review: Apple TV series on Isaac Asimov's work is sci-fi extraordinaire

The second episode picks up from where the first episode left off. The ruler of Trantor, Brother Day (Lee Pace), is anguished after knowing how many people have died in the destruction caused by the people of another planet. He is looking out for the culprits and doesn’t give a damn even if he has captured the wrong set of people. Elsewhere, Gaal Dornick (Lou Llobell) also supports Hari’s math and is one of the most important people on his team.

Raych can’t stand the sight of Hari because of a bitter past. In one of the scenes, we see Raych (Alfred Enoch), Gaal, and the entire group enjoying their food when Hari joins them. He asks Raych if he remembers the first meal they had together? Raych denies it as Hari talks about his family. Hari reveals how his father was drinking whatever money Raych brought. Raych stops him and says that he was not drinking. He also reveals that his father was working in the heat syncs and burnt his back in an accident. He stole the books for the medicine so that his father could get back to work.

Raych made it clear that he started drinking only when he decided to live with Hari.

In the final moments of the episode, we see Gaal trying to meet Raych to tell him something important. She couldn’t find him in his room and ran toward Hari’s room. As soon as Gaal enters Hari’s lab, she sees Raych piercing Hari’s body with a sharp instrument. Gaal is in disbelief after seeing what Raych has done, however, the latter believes that whatever he has done is absolutely right.

He takes Gaal into another compartment of the ship and makes her stand inside a capsule that would take her out of the Terminus. Raych pushes the button and the capsule takes Gaal away from the Terminus as the episode comes to an end.

A still from 'Foundation' (Apple TV+)

The first two episodes are visually stunning and I believe, we haven’t seen anything like it ever before. However, the show is so complex that people might need a doctorate to get a grasp of everything. Otherwise, the show has an intriguing subject and might pick up pace as it moves forward.

‘Foundation’ returns to Apple TV+ with a new episode every Friday.
