Former NFL linebacker, Parys Haralson passed away on Monday, September 13. He was 37 years old. Haralson played for the San Francisco 49ers and New Orleans Saints across a nine-year professional career. The cause of death is not clear at the moment.

A statement from the 49ers said, "The 49ers are heartbroken and shocked by the news of Parys’ tragic passing. Parys was a beloved member of our organization that lived life with an extraordinary amount of passion and joy, while leaving an indelible mark on everyone he came across." We have learned of the demise of many great stars in recent months. Jaquan Yulee (Football), Greg Clark (NFL star), Terry Donahue (UCLA coach) and Colt Brennan (Football) are to name a few.

The New Orleans Saints also released a statement on Haralson's demise that said, "The New Orleans Saints are saddened to learn of the passing of Parys Haralson, who died Monday at the age of 37." Haralson played in 118 games (88 starts) and registered 380 tackles, 28.0 sacks, five fumble recoveries, three forced fumbles and five passes defended during nine years of his career. He was originally drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the fifth round (140th overall) of the 2006 NFL Draft and played in 86 games across seven seasons for them. Haralson was acquired by New Orleans near the conclusion of the 2013 preseason and appeared in all 16 regular-season games with eight starts and finished with 35 tackles (16 solo) and 3.5 sacks. Haralson’s final NFL season included 3.0 sacks and 35 combined tackles while recovering one fumble.



 

Current New Orleans defensive end, Cameron Jordan paid condolences to Parys Haralson and tweeted, "Parys a true pro and a teammate turned FRIEND… at 37! 37!! Charismatic, high energy and wise on and off the field… the gems he dropped while being my teammates and the advice he gave off the field I’ll always value. Damn… RIP PTown."
