Floyd Mayweather says he’s ‘dealing with a lot’ after ex-partner, uncle’s deaths but donates for coronavirus
Floyd Mayweather has revealed that at a personal level, he has been "dealing with a lot" because of family deaths, but he vowed to shift his focus to helping people affected by the coronavirus crisis. The 43-year-old said that he will help in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic, even if he does not make a public announcement related to his contributions.
The former professional boxer lost his uncle and mother of his children in March within days of each other. While his uncle Roger Mayweather passed away because of his ill health, his ex-partnerJosie Harris' death was unexpected as her body was found inside a car just outside her California home.
"As far as dealing with the loss of the mother of my children, she was a significant other. A great woman, a great person,” Floyd said of the late 40-year-old, and called his uncle a “Great trainer, my uncle, a father figure.”
“I'm here to help this world become a better place. With everything going on I'm going to continue to do my part. I don't have to show the world what I'm doing; I can do something behind closed doors,” said the former professional boxer, who has reportedly made approximately $1 billion in fight money.
Continuing further, he said, “It's not about the money, and the money that I will be giving up will be to feed the people and help the people that don't have a lot because of this situation. I will continue to give back and I will never talk about it. As long as God knows that I'm doing a good deed, that what's important to me.”
“To everyone in the world, from Floyd Mayweather and The Money Team, we love you all and we will always be there for this country as well as this world,” Floyd added.
This comes days after Floyd’s daughter, Iyanna 'YayYa' Mayweather, was arrested for allegedly stabbing her fiancé NBA YoungBoy’s baby mother Lapattra Lashai Jacobs. The 19-year-old had attacked Jacobs at YoungBoy's house after an argument ensued between her and Jacobs over YoungBoy as Iyanna said Jacobs should leave and she refused. The argument moved to the kitchen where she took hold of two knives and stabbed Jacobs with the same.
Iyanna was soon taken into custody following the alleged incident and was charged with felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. As per reports, she could be facing 99 years in prison for her involvement in the crime.
Earlier reports also claimed that Floyd’s ex-partner Harris was writing a book before she was found dead. An extract of the unpublished book revealed Floyd and Harris' troubled relationship and the accounts of physical abuse she suffered at the hands of the boxer when they were together.
In the book, Harris has explained the horrific details, alleging that once Floyd grabbed her by the hair while she was still sleeping, and dragged her around the room of her home in Las Vegas "like a rag doll" before hitting her repeatedly in the head, screaming: "I’ll f**king kill you".
