'Filthy Rich' Episode 2: How Eugene's return to the Monreaux estate could affect the new matriarchy in place
Spoilers for FOX's 'Filthy Rich' Episode 1 'John 3:3'
Both the premiere and the second episode of 'Filthy Rich' have shown the audience that Eugene Monreaux (Gerald McRaney) had survived the plane crash in the premiere and that's why his family couldn't find his body. Of course, the fact that two young half-naked women he was with died, the Monreaux family assumed the patriarch was dead.
Interestingly, in the second episode, we see Eugene healed from his accident and the woman that was nursing him baptized him to release him from his sins. She then sent him on his way, and we're assuming that he would head home even though as he put it he was scared considering he had a lot to answer to — the fact that he was cheating on his wife, more than once, and that he had fathered three other children outside his marriage with Margaret Monreaux (Kim Cattrall).
Since her husband's passing, Margaret had appointed herself SEO and as her daughter-in-law Becky Monreaux (Olivia Macklin) put it, Margaret thinks she's god. So how quickly will the new matriarchy topple when Eugene returns to the Monreaux estate?
While it seems that Margaret was genuinely unaware that Eugene had three other children with three different women, she did admit that she was aware he was unfaithful. In the second episode, we also hear about the possibility that someone could have wanted Eugene dead. But, now we know the man is alive and not only are all his secrets exposed but he also has to come back and face the drama in front of the religious community he and his wife foster.
While we can't be sure if Margaret wanted her husband dead, she certainly now has a lot to lose if Eugene gets the role of CEO back. We also can't be sure he would head home so quick considering all the shame he holds, but if he does, will he now have a relationship with his three other kids — Antonio Rivera (Benjamin Levy Aguilar), Ginger Sweet (Melia Kreiling) and Jason Conley (Mark L Young)?
Eugene has three children with Margaret, Eric (Corey Cott) and Rose (Aubrey Dollar) Monreaux who both seem to be quite neglected by their parents. We wonder if Eugene would want to repent for his sins and decides to have a relationship with his three new kids, how would that fair in the family business?
After his death, Margaret refused to follow Eugene's will that stated each of his kids (all five) would receive 1% of what he owns and deduced it down to just $10,000 a week. How would Eugene feel about the fact that Margaret had neglected his will? Not that he was any better.
We think that if Eugene made it back home, the family may welcome him with open arms, but a lot of animosities will follow. The man has done too much for it to be forgiven so quickly, not to mention we have no idea how the subscribers to the Christian network that is helmed by the Monreaux family would feel about welcoming a sinner back into their community.
Episode 3 airs on Monday, October 5, 2020, from 9 to 10 pm ET on FOX.
