Feeling gloomy during the lockdown? Well, we've got you covered. It's time for some anime fun, as Toonami has just announced that the network is partnering with Crunchyroll to produce a new original anime series called 'Fena: Pirate Princess'. This announcement was made at the first-ever Adult Swim Con.

“I’m thrilled to be able to announce our next co-produced anime series with our partners at Crunchyroll and bring Nakazawa’s unique vision to life,” said Jason DeMarco, senior vice president and creative director on-air for Adult Swim. “I hope you come to love these characters as much as I do.”

Here's all you need to know about the upcoming show.

Release date

'Fena: Pirate Princess' is a 12-episode series and will air on Adult Swim's Toonami block and stream on Crunchyroll sometime in 2021.

Plot

The story revolves around a girl named Fena Houtman, who has been brought up on an island, and she doesn't have high hopes about her future. She believes that she is just meant to be used and discarded by the British Empire. However, a curious series of events changes her life forever and she decides to break free of her bondage.

The official synopsis of the show reads, "Fena Houtman has been raised on an Island where there is no hope of becoming anything more than chattel, to be used and discarded by soldiers of the British Empire. But Fena is more than just another powerless orphan. When her mysterious past comes knocking, Fena will break the chains of her oppressors. Her goal: forge a new identity, free of bondage, and search for a place where she can truly belong and find out the true mysteries behind a keyword "Eden." It is the story of a lifetime adventure she and her crew of misfits and unlikely allies will have, in pursuit of her goals!"

Voice cast

There are no details about the voice cast yet. MEA WorldWide (MEAWW) will update this article once the voice cast is announced.

Creators

Kazuto Nakazawa will helm the series. Nakazawa is known for his work on Quentin Tarantino's 'Kill Bill' as well as animation by Production IG.
