With close to three decades in hip-hop, Fat Joe has earned a respectable position in the game but time and again he courts controversies due to his ill remarks which always leads to a slam fest on Twitter. The same happened when the hip-hop heavyweight sparked outrage after he compared his very close friend DJ Khaled to the legendary Quincy Jones.

The 50-year-old rapper recently appeared as a guest on a new episode of ‘Drink Champs’ with N.O.R.E. and DJ EFN where he shed light on how DJ Khaled was exceptional at his craft and that he wanted hip-hop fans to give Khaled the credit he deserves for his hard work over the years. However, Fat Joe’s comment that DJ Khaled is the “Quincy Jones of hip-hop” did not go down well with the Internet as many slammed the rapper for the same.

‘DJ Khaled really is the Quincy Jones of hip-hop right now’

While discussing DJ Khaled’s song ‘Sorry Not Sorry’ that features Jay-Z and Nas from his latest number one album ‘Khaled Khaled’, Fat Joe emphasized on Khaled’s style of working, saying people believe that Khaled just brings top artistes and gets them together under one roof for catchy songs but there is so much more to it as several other DJs/producers try to pull off the same stunt but do not get the same results. “People take away the greatness from Khaled and they say, ‘Well he just gets a bunch of big-time rappers and puts them on the same song,'. There’s a million DJs and producers that try that, and those ain’t hit records. Joe added, “And it’s been a long time since we heard Nas and JAY-Z on what to me sounds like a smash hit, like a smash hit, that can play on the radio, it’s streaming incredibly. So DJ Khaled really is the Quincy Jones of Hip Hop right now.”

After facing backlash on the same, Fat Joe also posted a comment on Instagram with an intention to clarify his statement, as reported by TMZ. "All these back seat drivers Monday morning quarterbacks always got an opinion but can’t do it themselves s**t crazy. To me the term Quincy jones of this time was used in reference to the work Khaled has put in years and years of hit obviously there’s only one Quincy but f**k it tune in tonight EXPLOSIVE lol."

Speaking of Quincy Jones, he is one of the legendary musicians the world has ever seen. The iconic record producer, singer and songwriter has been nominated for the Grammys for a record 80 times. Jones won 28 Grammys along with a Grammy Legend Award in 1992. Time magazine also named him as one of the most influential jazz musicians of the 20th century.

‘He is in no position to appoint titles’

The reason why Fat Joe faced a lot of heat from the Internet over DJ Khalid is due to the latter’s style of working as everyone knows how Khaled does not make his own beats. He mostly works on samples, curates them and adds his famous ad-libs over them while also roping in top global artistes on his albums. Speaking on the same one user tweeted, “Fat Joe ain’t in the position to down play Quincy Jones career by comparing him to some one like Khaled. Someone need to give Joe a history lesson.” Another said, “Dear Fat Joe we know literally u know Quincy Jones, but comparing him to Khalid just comes across as if u don’t know our history. There’s a reason why Ray introduced u to a young Quincy in “Ray”. He really changed shit he didn’t just create super team albums! #Respectfully”

The next one posted, “Fat Joe smoking dope comparing DJ Khaled to The Great Quincy Jones” while another added, “Fat Joe aka the one hit wonder where he went after “Lean Back” thinks DJ Khalid is comparable to the Legendary Quincy Jones. Big Pun’s got to be turning in his grave.” One user asserted, “Who is going to tell Fat Joe to stop talking? He is in NO position to appoint titles, especially one as disrespectful as the Quincy Jones of Hip-Hop.”
