Spoilers for 'Secret Invasion' Episode 2

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The first episode of 'Secret Invasion' started out with a bang, quite literally, considering there was a devastating bomb blast. Amidst this, Maria Hill, played by the beloved Cobie Smulders was killed by a Skrull who had shapeshifted to become Nick Fury's doppelganger. It was truly crushing for fans because Hill was often sidelined in MCU movies, but they were very hopeful for her character in 'Secret Invasion.'

Marvel is no stranger to character deaths, and their next big target was Hill in 'Secret Invasion'. However, fans were definitely hopeful that her death was a ploy of some sort, and would be rectified in 'Secret Invasion' Episode 2, but sadly, that wasn't the case. Instead, Marvel used 'Secret Invasion' Episode 2 to properly confirm Hill's death as her mother, Elizabeth, received her body in a casket, escorted by military personnel. One could call it bittersweet, but in reality, it was simply crushing and fans haven't held back their emotions. Gone are the days they were upset about AI-generated credits as they are busy mourning Hill.

'Nick Fury can choke'

One of the biggest takeaways from the scene with Hill's mother and Fury was that Elizabeth blamed Fury for her daughter's death, and looks like some fans are in agreement... and angry too. One tweet reads, "no but fuck nick fury he can choke too HE DID ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO PROTECT HER #SecretInvasion." Fans also can't stop quoting one particular line with gifs, "// #SecretInvasion “you're nick fury. maria believed in you. she would've followed you to the gates of hell and back” Reality has most certainly hit fans hard as one writes, "so maria hill being dead wasn't a joke after all... #SecretInvasion."

By the looks of it, some fans are still in denial as one tweet read, "Maria Hill can’t be gone! We may have saw a coffin but we haven’t seen a body IM UNWELL #SecretInvasion #MariaHill." Another wrote, "Secret Invasion spoilers - - - - - - - THIS SHOW WILL QUITE LITERALLY BE THE DEATH OF ME. IT’S GOING TO TEAR ME TO SHREDS. MARIA CANT BE DEAD ISTG." And of course, fan theories masking this denial know no bounds as one fan with hope tweeted, "/ #SecretInvasion me explaining how we didn’t see Maria’s body in the coffin and that Cobie is listed for 4 episodes on IMDB so she’s not dead." Well, Rest in Peace, Maria Hill.
