Is Joe Trohman OK? Fall Out Boy's lead guitarist steps away from band over 'deteriorating' mental health

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: On January 18, Fall Out Boy's lead guitarist Joe Trohman revealed that he is stepping away from the band due to 'deteriorating mental health’. Joe wrote a note to his fans from the official social media handles of ‘Fall Out Boy,’ saying, “Neil Young once howled that it’s better to burn out than to fade away. But I can tell you unequivocally that burning out is dreadful. Without divulging all the details, I must disclose that my mental health has rapidly deteriorated over the past several years. So, to avoid fading away and never returning, I will be taking a break from work which regrettably includes stepping away from Fall Out Boy for a spell. It pains me to make this decision, especially when we are releasing a new album that fills me with great pride (the sin I’m most proud of).”
Further, Trohman, whose full name is Joseph Mark Trohman, declared that he will "absolutely, one hundred percent" rejoin the group at some point, as he added, “In the meantime, I must recover which means putting myself and my mental health first,” he continued. “Thank you to everyone, including my bandmates and family, for understanding and respecting this difficult, but necessary, decision.” Meanwhile, the news came less than 24 hours after the band launched their new album 'So Much (For) Stardust' and published the lead single "Love from the Other Side.”

Several fans of Joe and Fall Out Boy came out and extended their support to the guitarist. One person wrote on Twitter, “Love you, buddy. Take the time you need, your health is paramount!” “Thank you for taking care of yourself man, and setting a good example for the rest of us. Wishing you all the best,” another added. Someone noted, “Sending love and light Trohman. Recovery and rest are important. Come back when you’re feeling better and not a second sooner.”
“This must not have been an easy decision to make especially given that y'all have started a new album cycle so TREMENDOUS respect to you Trohman for putting yourself and your mental health first despite everything else that's been going on,” yet another user remarked.

Together with his childhood buddy Pete Wentz, Trohman founded the band Fall Out Boy in Chicago in 2001. They released their debut album ‘Take This To Your Grave’ in 2003. The group later rose to prominence thanks to their famous albums like ‘From Under The Cork Tree’, ‘Mania’, and so on.
In the past, Trohman has been transparent about his battles with mental illness. He started the podcast ‘I Hate Myself’ in 2021, which features topics about mental health. He also published a memoir last year titled ‘None of This Rocks’ that discussed his struggles with depression and drug misuse.
