The second episode kicks off with a flashback to a vibrant yacht party where Gus (Connor James), Margaret's (Nicole Kidman) second son, makes his entrance.

In a spontaneous moment, Gus attempts to jump off the yacht, showcasing his mischievous side. Quick to act, Mercy (Ji-young Yoo) steps in, preventing the daring leap. Margaret expresses her gratitude for Mercy's intervention.

As the episode unfolds, a second interaction between the two women is established. Seeking attention from her affluent friends, Mercy takes a daring plunge off the yacht. Margaret, showing generosity, looks after her as she returns.

The scene transitions to a relaxed moment with Mercy and Margaret's children. Amid the conversation, Mercy offers to lend a hand in caring for Margaret's children, a gesture promptly dismissed by Margaret.

Gus vanishes into the thin air

Concerned about Gus becoming overly dependent on their Cantonese housekeeper, Essie (Ruby Ruiz), Margaret takes the initiative. She plans a family night out at the night market with Clarke (Brian Tee) and the children to strengthen their bonds.

When Clarke backs out, Margaret turns to Mercy for help in looking after the children. The family, now with Mercy in tow, is seen at the night market.

Uncertain if it's a job trial or a casual outing, Mercy seeks advice from her friend Philiena (Lesley Chiang). While exploring the market, Margaret's daughter, Daisy (Tiana Gowen), turns to Mercy for help with accessories.

Mercy offers to take the boys on their own adventure. However, as they explore, Mercy becomes engrossed in her phone, and Gus mysteriously disappears. Panicking, she and David search desperately for him.

As Margaret approaches, a shocking revelation unfolds. Despite exhaustive efforts, Gus is never found, leaving Mercy overwhelmed with guilt as the episode concludes.

'Expats' is now streaming on Prime Video.
