NEWARK, NEW JERSEY: Eve Barlow did not miss the chance to blast Johnny Depp after he made a surprise appearance at 2022’s MTV VMAs on Sunday, August 28, as the "Moon Person". The 59-year-old actor was not physically present at the show but his face was reportedly digitally put in the helmet of the moon person hanging in the air.

This was Depp’s first TV appearance since he won the legal battle against former wife Amber Heard in a Virginia court in June. During his short show, the ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ star declared, “And you know what? I needed the work.” He also said, “Hey VMAs, let’s get back to the f***ing music, shall we?”

The father-of-two also shared a short clip from the awards ceremony on his Instagram page as he could be heard saying, “I just want you guys to know that I’m available for birthdays, bar mitzvahs, bat mitzvahs, weddings, wakes, any old thing you need.” While many took to the internet to shower their love for the A-lister, Heard’s friend Barlow did not hold back against him.

The music/culture journalist posted a series of tweets lambasting Depp as one of them read, “I heard Johnny Depp performed for two seconds #DVMAs #toosoon?” Another one said, “If you’re going to make a joke about yourself needing work, you don’t appear as a hologram hanging from the ceiling. Johnny Depp is an excuse for a desperate dinosaur. Keep it real, man. Or something.”

In a tweet, Barlow noted, “When Amber won in the UK v little changed. Petitions to have her fired from Aquaman 2 continued to gain traction. The social media trolling got worse. In the three months since Depp won in the US. he went on tour, released an album, landed a role, and was invited to the VMAs.” 

She also shared, “It sucks that a man gets to continue the circus of his sham of a reality publicly for better or worse while a woman has to shield from public life. #GiveAmberHerVoiceBack,” before claiming, “Depp turned a serious tragedy into a circus for public entertainment because he's a perpetrator. A survivor doesn't do that. Amber went to a courthouse to get a restraining order. You can't do that in private. She didn't call paps. She did everything to keep it from public view.”

There were people who seemed to agree with Barlow as she retweeted their posts as well. One such post said, “‘I had the rare vantage point of seeing, in real-time, how institutions protect men accused of abuse.’ This statement was true then, and it is true now. The entire entertainment industry should be ashamed of how they've treated Amber Heard. #VMAs #DVMAs #ApologizeToAmberHeard.”

However, Depp’s fans soon jumped in to defend their star while slamming Barlow. One of them tweeted, “Your life at this stage is just tragic I'm actually starting to pity you…” The second one wrote, “@Eve_Barlow you’re an idiot.” “Johnny doesn't give a f*** about @Eve_Barlow or all the other pathetic minions of Amber. And it's so completely, beautifully, and amazingly wonderful!!! Love every second!!! #JohnnyDeppRisesVMA,” the third one said.

A tweet read, “@Eve_Barlow I really pity you. You're just like Johnny. You fell in love with a con artist and, like Johnny, when you no longer serve a purpose for her she'll break your heart.” “Watching Eve Barlow rant when she gets riled about JD is so funny! Comes across as such a bitter person seeing her gf's ex doing things she couldn't ever compete with, so has to rant. Just proving yourself Eve! You'll never compete with JD, the world loves him! #EveBarlowIsAJoke,” another tweet added.
