Emmys 2019: 'Chernobyl' Director Johan Renck wins Outstanding Directing for a Limited Series

This is 'Chernobyl's first win of the night. The show is up for Outstanding Limited Series as well.

RuPaul and Zendaya presented the Emmy Award for Outstanding Directing for a Limited Series or a Movie at the 71st Primetime Emmy Awards. The nominees included Johan Renck ('Chernobyl'), Ben Stiller ('Escape at Dannemora'), Jessica Yu ('Fosse/Verdon Glory'), Thomas Kail ('Fosse/Verdon Who's Got The Pain'), Stephen Frears ('A Very English Scandal') and Ava DuVernay ('When They See Us').

The Award for Directing in a Limited Series or Movie when to Johan Rench for 'Chernobyl'. This is the first win of the night for 'Chernobyl'. The show won at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards held last week for Outstanding Cinematography, Outstanding Music Composition, Outstanding Production Design, Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing, Outstanding Sound Editing, Outstanding Sound Mixing, and Outstanding Special Visual Effects all for Limited Series or a Movie.

Renck thanked his wife and his 'Chernobyl' family. This is Renck's first Emmy nomination and win. He was previously nominated for BAFTA for Best Drama Series for 'The Last Panthers'. Renck is known for directing music videos.

'Chernobyl' is also up for Outstanding Limited Series which will be announced later tonight.
