SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA: The tech mogul is being berated by trolls for charging his users $20 a month to stay verified on Twitter. It is also reported that Elon Musk gave an ultimatum to his Twitter engineers, telling them that they had less than a week to launch the project or they would be fired.

The richest man in the world has repeatedly made it clear that he wants to overhaul the way the social media giant verifies accounts and deals with bots. On Sunday, Oct 30, Elon Musk tweeted, "The whole verification process is being revamped right now." Twitter users will now have to pay $20 for the privilege of remaining verified or lose their badge. There are currently about 400,000 verified users on Twitter.

However, The Verge report says that the price of the verification is subject to change and the price will also cover so-far unspecified other features. Nevertheless Internet is baffled after reports started circulating that Twitter engineers have until November 7 to launch the scheme or face being fired while employees were only told of the project on October 30, according to Daily Mail. While one Twitter user conspired with a theory that, "What a guy. @elonmuskis making sure to fire people at Twitter before part of their year-end compensation *kicks in on Tuesday.*" The Tech mogul refuted his claimed and responded  by simply writing, "This is false."

The Tesla makers' new pay-up move comes after reports claimed that bots make up five percent of all users and "heavy tweeters" make up less than 10 percent of the site's monthly users. Trolls on Twitter slammed Elon Musk's new strategy while many simply tweeted, "RIP Twitter." One tweet read, "Retweet if you’re unwilling to pay $20 a month to use Twitter." A user remarked about the revenue Elon Musk will earn after charging $20 stated, "If Twitter gets even 10 percent of these people to pay $20/month, they will be making an extra 7.2 million dollars per year. That's enough to buy four or even five houses in Toronto — and, again, that's every single year."  While many trolls also mocked users who wouldn't be able to pay for the badge and wrote, "Elon Musk to all those verified account on twitter who can’t pay the $20 a month," with a sign asking them to leave Twitter. One user mocking Elon Musk charges and wrote, "Twitter: 'We charging $20 a month for verification' Everybody" replying shiii. "People that are not verified acting like this affects them:" wrote one user.
