Why was Nicole Young's restraining order denied? Dr Dre's estranged wife fears for her life over rapper's lyrics
Following Dr Dre and his wife's divorce filing in June last year, it looks like things are progressively turning nastier for the couple. Dr Dre's wife, Nicole Young, is reportedly fearing for her safety due to a lyric from one of the rapper's latest songs and had a restraining order denied in court.
The couple, who were married for 24 years, has had a continuous back-and-forth since their divorce and have been vocal about their disdain for each other. Both sides appear to be digging in for a battle over Dre's significant assets in the midst of an unexpected health scare that landed the rapper in the hospital during the first week of January with a reported brain aneurysm.

Nicole Young and Dr Dre got married in 1996. The two share two children: a 24-year-old son Truice and a 20-year-old daughter Truly. Dre also has four children from previous relationships: 38-year-old La Tanya Danielle Young, 39-year-old Curtis, 30-year-old Marcel and Andre Young Jr who died in 2008. Nicole Young filed for divorce from the mogul in the Los Angeles Superior Court, citing irreconcilable differences and seeking spousal support in June 2020.
According to TMZ, Nicole requested an emergency domestic violence restraining order, citing a Dr Dre song released last month, in which he calls her a "greedy bitch". The track references his time in the ICU and gets heated about the couple's pending divorce.
"(B***h) Trying to kill me with them lies and that perjury, I see you trying to f**k me while I’m in surgery. In ICU, death bed, on some money sh*t. Greedy b***h, take a pick, girl you know how money get … You know we don’t tolerate that nonsense, by any means get your hand up out my pocket. This life is private just like the pilot, it’s been decided, this the Poseidon," Dre raps in the song.
Nicole claims that with the new song, "he has upped the ante and is now outright threatening me to keep my mouth shut or else." According to People, Nicole has alleged several incidents of abuse by Dre.
Five months after filing for divorce, Nicole claimed that Dre "held a gun to my head" twice in 2000 and 2001, that he "punched me in the head/face" in 1999 and 2000, and that he "kicked down a door" while she hid "from his rage" in 2016, among other allegations of abuse. In court documents filed to the Superior Court of California, she said, "Andre has verbally and emotionally decimated my personhood to the extent that I currently suffer from post-traumatic stress syndrome."
According to documents filed by attorney Samantha Spector, Nicole feels Dre's lyrics in the recent song, along with her past allegations of abuse, justify the restraining order. However, the judge wasn't convinced and shut down her request due to "insufficient evidence".
Dre has responded to her allegations, saying that he's only seen or spoken to Nicole once since she filed for divorce, and that was when she visited him at the hospital in January, following his brain aneurysm. Dre added that he's had no contact with her otherwise and categorically denies all her abuse claims. He said that since she made her allegations, he realized he had no idea who the woman he was married to was and he wanted nothing to do with her.
