BUCHAREST, ROMANIA: Andrew Tate is a multi-faceted personality who has made a name for himself not just through his social media antics but also for his chess prowess. The man has dabbled in the game since childhood, having learnt it from his father Emory Tate, who was a former world chess champion. With such legendary tutelage under his belt, it's no surprise that Andrew has become a formidable chess player in his own right.

While Andrew may not participate in chess tournaments at a professional level, he is still an active player in the game and enjoys competing online. His ranking on Chess.com is highly impressive, as it sits at around 1600, putting him in the higher percentile of players. It goes without saying that Andrew has put a lot of time and effort into developing his skills as a chess player, and his ranking is a testament to that.

Andrew Tate comes from a storied background

The world of chess is a sophisticated and competitive arena, Andrew's late father Emory went head-to-head with the best players globally. Thanks to his unmatched skill and dedication, the United States Chess Federation (USCF) and International Chess Federation (FIDE) awarded him with incredible scores of 2413 and 2508, respectively. Such recognition placed Emory among the top 2000 players worldwide, an impressive achievement by any standard. While today's No.1 ranked player boasts a score of 2853, it is fair to say that Emory's talent made him one of the biggest players in the world of chess in his time. As a professional chess player, he triumphed in over 80 tournaments against grandmasters during his illustrious career.

Compared to the scores of his dad Emory Tate and other professionals, Andrew 'Cobra' Tate may not have achieved the same level of success. But he has inherited at least some of his dad's skills in the game. Skills that he has further sharpened on his own. 

'I never saw him study chess books’

It's mind-boggling to discover that despite his father's impressive record in the field, he never once picked up a chess book or consulted online resources. Andrew Tate, in an interview with ChessLife, revealed this rare and precious insight into his father's career as a chess player. "I never saw him study chess books, ever. He also hated chess computers and never used them," he recalled.

Furthermore, chess seems to run in the family's blood. Just like Emory taught little Andrew, the influencer is also passing on his knowledge to his own offspring. As shown in the picture below, we can observe the younger Tate teaching his daughter the complexities of the game, perpetuating the legacy of the Tate family's mastery of chess.
