'This Is The Year': Release date, plot, cast, trailer and all you need to know about the Selena Gomez produced teen comedy

The 'Wizard of Waverly Places' duo is back. Selena Gomez and David Henrie announced a virtual premiere for Henrie's upcoming film, 'This Is The Year'. Gomez and Henrie appeared together in the Disney show for five years, from 2007 to 2012.

The announcement came on Monday, August 10,  when Gomez invited fans in a video. "Most premieres are only for a very small, select group of people, but not this one," she said in the video announcement which you can view here. "We want all of you to watch it with us." The film's virtual premiere will take place on Friday, August 28, at 7.30 EDT. Fans can purchase tickets to the event from the film's official website for $11.99. According to UPI, the ticket will include access to a pre-show party featuring Gomez and Henrie, the film, a live Q+A session with the cast, hosted by Charli and Dixie D'Amelio of TikTok fame, and a performance by lovelytheband. 'The Is The Year' will have a virtual premiere on Friday, August 28. 

Plot

The official synopsis of the film says, "In a last-ditch effort to win over the girl of his dreams, a nerdy high school senior (Lorenzo Henrie) and his best friends embark on a road trip to see their favorite band at the biggest music festival of the year. On their journey, they realize that elaborate plans never go off without a hitch and that you can find true love in the most unexpected places." As Gomez puts it, the teen comedy will "give you all the feels. With all the craziness going on in the world, a feel-good movie is just what we need".

Cast

In addition to Henrie, the film stars Lorenzo James Henrie, Vanessa Marano, Gregg Sulkin (another Wizards alum) and Jeff Garlin.

Lorenzo James Henrie was born on June 29, 1993, in Arizona, USA. He is not just an actor but also a producer. Lorenzo is known for his appearance in 'Walking Dead' (2015), 'Agents of SHIELD' (2013) and 'Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2' (2015).

Gregg Sulkin

Creator

The film is directed by David Henrie. Henrie is also the writer of the film along with Pepe Portillo and Bug Hall. Selena Gomez is the executive producer of the film.
